The Hammers marched into an early lead when evergreen club legend Mark Noble opened the scoring before iconic striker [Dean Ashton doubled the advantage](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMpPo8B_Yz0) inside the first 25 minutes.

On what was a landmark day for the east Londoners as they [played their 500th Premier League fixture](https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2008/0426/231042-westham_newcastle/), in the moments before half time things began to unravel.

Memorable [Irons from this fixture](https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/7356064.stm) include Freddie Ljungberg, Luis Boa Morte and John Pantsil.
