# Leon Osman believes individual errors could cost West Ham

Former Everton midfielder Leon Osman has singled out individual errors as a potential cause should [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/04/17/mark-lawrenson-predicts-west-ham-defeat-vs-newcastle-united/) miss out on a top-four finish this season.

The Hammers were [beaten 3-2](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/april/18-april/extended-highlights-newcastle-united-3-2-west-ham-united) by Newcastle on Saturday afternoon and all three goals came via mistakes, with experienced defender [Craig Dawson sent off](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56699181) following two bookable offences.

Osman, who played under Irons boss David Moyes on [344 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leon-osman/leistungsdatentrainer/spieler/3620/plus/0/trainer_id/450), told  [BBC’s Match of the Day](https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000vbwq/match-of-the-day-202021-17042021) that the errors won’t please the Scottish manager.

> If you’re going for a top-four challenge you can’t afford to give opposition goals. We’re talking about a West Ham side that have conceded the most shots against them in the last five games.

So far this season West Ham players have[made three individual errors](https://www.kickest.it/en/premier-league/stats/players/errors-leading-to-goals?teams=39) leading directly to goals, a figure with just six games remaining Moyes will be desperate to keep down.

The Irons could drop out of the [Champions League qualification places](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) tonight should Liverpool pick up all three points against Leeds United.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Moyes’ side have been [watertight](https://totalfootballanalysis.com/team-analysis/west-ham-david-moyes-tactical-analysis-tactics-premier-league)for the majority of the season, up until the last few weeks.

Whilst the [results before Saturday](https://www.whufc.com/fixtures/first-team/fixtures-and-results) were respectable, the Irons have been conceding goals and throwing away leads too easily.

If the east Londoners are going to go on a European adventure next season, albeit perhaps a bizarre one following the[European Super League proposals](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56795811) over the weekend, the run-in will need to see a return to their defensive solidity.
