# West Ham set to miss out on Leicester bound Odsonne Edouard

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/03/05/report-west-ham-set-sights-on-illan-meslier/) could be set to miss out on January transfer target [Odsonne Edouard](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/17/west-ham-target-odsonne-edouard-could-leave-for-cut-price-fee/) as the Celtic striker edges towards a move to Leicester City, according to the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9327251/Leicester-close-15m-deal-Celtic-forward-Edouard-long-term-replacement-Vardy.html).

The same publication [reported the Hammers’ interest](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9183263/West-Ham-eye-35m-deal-Celtic-striker-Odsonne-Edouard-replace-flop-Sebastien-Haller.html)during the winter transfer window with a £35m fee mooted.

However, the Foxes, who are managed by [former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers](https://www.transfermarkt.com/brendan-rodgers/profil/trainer/1366), look to have won the race for the Frenchman and could complete the deal for just £15m when Edouard enters the[final 12 months of his contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/profil/spieler/344152)this summer.

The report claims the 23-year-old will sign for the Midlands club with a view to being the [long-term replacement for Jamie Vardy](https://readwestham.com/_wp_link_placeholder) at the end of the season, bringing to an end a[four-year spell](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/transfers/spieler/344152) at Celtic Park.

The powerful forward has added [20 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/leistungsdaten/spieler/344152) this term, as Celtic relinquish their stranglehold of the [Scottish Premiership](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/scottish-premiership) title.

Having previously held an interest David Moyes will now be forced to look at other targets, with[Adam Armstrong, Ivan Toney and Eddie Nketiah](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/west-ham-three-man-striker-target-lost-abraham-nketiah-toney) amongst the main contenders.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Another one bites the dust.

That may not actually be a bad thing as clarity of thought can be as important as anything else when it comes to identifying targets, as proved to be the case in January when a [scattergun of speculation](https://www.football365.com/news/feature-west-ham-striker-haller-giroud-dembele-king) saw the Hammers end up fruitless.

Despite Edouard’s obvious [strengths](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/317504/Show/Odsonne-Edouard), which would’ve made him the[ideal Michail Antonio replacement](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/odsonne-edouard-qualities-make-celtic-21423059), and[prolific goalscoring record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/344152)north of the border, he remains [unproven in the Premier League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/transfers/spieler/344152) and as ever there is a risk attached to that.
