# ExWHUemployee says nothing is decided for Fabian Balbuena

Popular club insider [ExWHUemployee](https://twitter.com/ExWHUemployee) has claimed Fabian Balbuena’s [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/03/05/west-ham-set-to-miss-out-on-leicester-bound-odsonne-edouard/) future remains unresolved amid [speculation](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2021/03/04/west-ham-transfer-news-balbuena-exit/)regarding the centre-back.

[Out of contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fabian-balbuena/profil/spieler/285548) at the end of the season and with [reported interest from abroad](https://twitter.com/pedrogva6/status/1366463994408673283?s=20) there had been a case for assuming the 29-year-old was reaching the end of the road in east London.

However, speaking on the [West Ham Way podcast](https://www.patreon.com/thewesthamway/posts) this week, Ex has confirmed nothing is as yet certain:

> Fabian Balbuena is still yet to sign a new contract and has had a number of offers submitted to him including one from Brazil and I think one or two from Spain. I don’t think we have made a complete decision on it as yet.

Having[featured prominently](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fabian-balbuena/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/285548/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/379) earlier in the season, Balbuena’s been reduced to a watching brief of late as[Craig Dawson, Angelo Ogbonna](https://www.whoscored.com/PlayerComparison) and more recently Issa Diop occupy the central defence.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Given the uncertainty over loanee Dawson’s and[out on loan Winston Reid’s](https://www.brentfordfc.com/news/2021/february/brentford-sign-new-zealand-international-winston-reid-from-west-ham-united/) destination next season, it’s perhaps little surprise the Hammers are yet to fully commit to parting ways with Balbuena.

However, clearly [unfancied](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/players/reason-fabian-balbuena-didnt-play-19472476) by [David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2021/03/04/marcelo-bielsa-waxes-lyrical-over-west-ham-stars/) and with the likelihood of [at least one incoming defender](https://www.90min.com/posts/6591797-west-ham-transfers-6-centre-backs-the-hammers-could-realistically-target-this-summer)this summer, offering a new deal to the Paraguay international would make little sense.

Furthermore, [recent reports](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-moyes-staff-excited-by-alves-earmark-major-west-ham-role-for-him-next-season/) have claimed [January signing Frederik Alves](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/december/22-december/west-ham-united-sign-promising-danish-defender-frederik) is being readied for a prominent role in Moyes’ first-team next term, further fuelling the belief Balbuena’s days are numbered.
