# West Ham target Oleksandr Zinchenko reportedly no longer an option

Manchester City left-back and recent target for [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/03/04/noel-whelan-wowed-by-west-hams-mentality-shift/) Oleksandr Zinchenko is set to be offered a new contract according to a report from Hammers insiders [Claret and Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/hammers-target-off-limits-as-new-deal-readied/).

The Ukrainian defender was [believed to be previously surplus to requirements](https://www.90min.com/posts/manchester-city-open-to-offers-for-oleksandr-zinchenko) at the Etihad Stadium with the[Premier League leaders](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) open to offers for the 24-year-old.

However, the fresh report claims the full-back has accepted a squad rotation role under Pep Guardiola, leaving West Ham and[other potential suitors](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1374603/Man-City-Oleksandr-Zinchenko-January-transfer-decision-Wolves-interest-premier-league-news) Wolves,  Southampton and Leicester City left in the cold.

Having struggled in the early season with form and [repeated injuries](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/oleksandr-zinchenko/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/203853/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/281), the [35-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/oleksandr-zinchenko/nationalmannschaft/spieler/203853/verein_id/3699) attacking full-back has recently fought his way back into contention and[played 90 minutes against West Ham](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/oleksandr-zinchenko/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/203853/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/281) last weekend.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

[David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/26/west-ham-fans-react-david-moyes-dismisses-celtic-speculation/) currently has [three potential left-backs](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) at his disposal with Aaron Cresswell the mainstay.

Earlier this season there was [plenty of speculation](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-west-ham-set-sights-on-jan-signing-pundit-it-may-spell-end-for-cresswell/) regarding West Ham seeking out a new left-back, although Cresswell’s[continued outstanding performances](https://www.sofascore.com/player/aaron-cresswell/43443) have silenced those murmurings for now at least.

It could be argued the[currently sidelined Arthur Masuaku](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2021/03/02/west-ham-insider-offers-frustrating-update-on-injured-star-with-blow-proving-to-be-much-worse-than-initially-expected/) would be a makeshift left-back, whilst youngster Ben Johnson has been utilised in the position [despite naturally being a right-sided player](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-ben-johnson-inspired-ashley-young-right-footer-left-b920037.html).

At 31, the Liverpool-born first-choice[still has plenty to offer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-cresswell/profil/spieler/92571)the club, however, it won’t be long before a replacement is required – although it seems that won’t be Zinchenko.
