# Frederik Alves could be fast forwarded into first team plans

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/03/03/report-west-ham-front-of-the-queue-for-lukasz-skorupski/) are lining up young defender[Frederik Alves](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/23/west-ham-fans-react-to-frederik-alves-signing/) for a ‘prominent’ role in David Moyes’ first-team as soon as next season according to a report from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-moyes-staff-excited-by-alves-earmark-major-west-ham-role-for-him-next-season/).

The[five-cap Denmark Under-21 international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/frederik-alves/nationalmannschaft/spieler/542690/verein_id/16783) signed for the Hammers [in the January window](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-sign-frederik-alves-first-january-transfer-deal-b441790.html) from Danish club Silkeborg and has since [made four appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/frederik-alves/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/542690/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB21/verein/9267)for the Under 23s side.

However, the report claims that the 6’3 central defender has[made an impression](https://www.sofascore.com/player/frederik-alves/988201)early into his time in east London and has already been earmarked for a senior role next term.

Not a complete unknown to Moyes, the 21-year-old has been named on the bench in the Premier League on [four occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/frederik-alves/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/542690/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/379) but is yet to make his senior bow.

Having made[50 first-team outings for Silkeborg](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/frederik-alves/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/542690/verein/1177) before completing his switch to the Irons, it’s perhaps little surprise Alves has already shown his readiness to step up a level.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

This January signing went under the radar somewhat with little fuss made over his arrival.

With the club clear on the initial plans to integrate[the ‘promising’ youngster](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/december/22-december/west-ham-united-sign-promising-danish-defender-frederik)into the youth ranks before slowly progressing into Moyes’ squad, the early appearances on the bench were perhaps a nod towards the player’s ability.

Clearly exceeding expectations, Alves could be the ready-made replacement for Fabian Balbuena, whose [future at the London Stadium](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/west-ham-confusion-balbuena-future) looks[increasingly doubtful](https://www.footballinsider247.com/robinson-tips-west-ham-to-offload-balbuena-this-summer-after-key-update/) with just [months left](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fabian-balbuena/profil/spieler/285548)on his contract.

Aside from the Paraguayan, Craig Dawson will, at least initially, [return to parent club Watford](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9197991/Watford-offer-West-Ham-chance-sign-Craig-Dawson-permanently-3m-month.html) whilst [Angelo Obgonna turns 33](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/angelo-ogbonna/profil/spieler/48002)at the end of the season – all possible avenues to the first-team for the highly thought of Alves.
