# Leicester City will ‘monitor’ Jesse Lingard ahead of summer window

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/24/west-ham-fans-tony-cottee-adam-armstrong-transfer-hint/) loanee [Jesse Lingard](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/23/west-ham-jesse-lingard-buyout-clause-loan-deal-man-united/) is reported to be of interest to [Leicester City](https://readleicester.com/2021/02/01/hamza-choudhury-keen-on-deadline-day-newcastle-loan-move/), who will ‘monitor’ the attacking midfielder’s progress ahead of a potential summer swoop, according to [Eurosport.](https://www.eurosport.co.uk/football/transfers/2020-2021/erling-haaland-chelsea-growing-more-confident-of-winning-transfer-race-transfer-notebook_sto8145252/story.shtml)

Since joining [on loan from Manchester United](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/january/29-january/west-ham-united-sign-england-international-jesse-lingard-loan) on deadline day three weeks ago, Lingard has been in [scintillating form for the Hammers](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ferdinand-jesse-lingard-manchester-united-19883683) and has all but secured permanent transfer interest from the club.

However, [without a clause](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/manchester-united-blocked-automatic-buyout-clause-in-jesse-lingard-loan-deal-hphgq089f) in the deal to make the move permanent automatically in the summer, the Irons may not have things all their own way.

The 28-year-old has a history with the Midlands club having spent part of the [2012/13 season on loan at Leicester](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/141660/verein/1003) during a spell in the Championship.

Lingard’s parent club could yet opt to keep him after they [extended](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/manchester-united-trigger-jesse-lingard-contract-extension/17qmnilozgyp714isra47d47ws#:~:text=Manchester%20United%20have%20triggered%20the,until%20the%20summer%20of%202022.) the [24-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/nationalmannschaft/spieler/141660/verein_id/3299) England international’s contract a few weeks ago.

There was always a danger this could happen given [Lingard’s sensational form](https://www.sofascore.com/player/jesse-lingard/205508) and the lack of an obligatory buyout clause in the deal.

Whilst the Irons will hope that the 28-year-old’s [revival under David Moyes](https://londondailypost.com/jesse-lingard-could-prove-to-be-the-pick-of-the-january-transfer-window-deals/)will stand the club in good stead when it comes to convincing him that the London Stadium is the right choice, Leicester look [nailed-on for Champions League qualification](https://www.premierleague.com/tables), which could be a factor.

Lingard’s [£9m market value](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/marktwertverlauf/spieler/141660) will almost certainly be blown out of the water should he finish the campaign somewhere close to his current vein of form.
