# West Ham looking to make Craig Dawson move permanent

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/22/west-ham-among-frontrunners-for-goncalo-guedes/) are looking to make [Craig Dawson](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/16/west-ham-fans-praise-craig-dawson-impact/)’s loan from Watford a permanent deal in the coming months, according to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-major-update-on-west-ham-potentially-signing-dawson-on-permanent-deal/).

The Hammers [signed Dawson](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/october/12-october/west-ham-united-add-experienced-defender-craig-dawson) last October and the defender had to be patient in waiting for his chance whilst [Angelo Ogbonna and Fabian Balbuena](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-news-angelo-ogbonna-rock-david-moyes-transformation-b900069.html) performed admirably.

However, the 30-year-old has [seized his opportunity](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jan/11/stockport-west-ham-fa-cup-third-round-match-report) with a string of outstanding displays and has made himself an integral part of David Moyes’ side, starting the [last 10 Premier League matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/craig-dawson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/121477/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/379). Last month, [he was hailed](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/20/stuart-pearce-heaps-praise-on-incredible-craig-dawson/) by West Ham first team coach Stuart Pearce as “such a professional, an incredible kid and a pleasure to work with”.

Those [performances](https://www.sofascore.com/player/craig-dawson/50027) have lead to [calls to sign the centre-back](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/news/west-ham-dawson-tarkowski-transfer-19632173) on a permanent basis, and [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-major-update-on-west-ham-potentially-signing-dawson-on-permanent-deal/) claimed that Watford were willing to sell for £3m in January. The Irons stopped short of completing the deal at that point but could look to tie down the experienced [Rochdale-born defender](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/craig-dawson/profil/spieler/121477) soon.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Given how the first two months went for Dawson at the London Stadium, [few would have foreseen](https://www.footballinsider247.com/phillips-exclusive-west-ham-tipped-to-terminate-loan-within-weeks-amid-strange-claim/) his stay being made into a permanent one.

Whether he is the long-term answer to [Moyes’ defensive conundrum](https://talksport.com/football/760981/james-tarkowski-west-ham-third-final-bid-burnley-rejected/) remains to be seen, but as a short-term fix for the rest of this term and next season, it seems a no-brainer.

The mooted fee is so reasonable that it would leave the Hammers with scope to sign an additional option, with [Winston Reid likely to leave](https://www.brentfordfc.com/news/2021/february/brentford-sign-new-zealand-international-winston-reid-from-west-ham-united/) on a permanent basis this summer.
