# Pundits hail Tomas Soucek’s bravery against Spurs

Sky Sports punditry duo Jamie Redknapp and Micah Richards were in awe of [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/22/west-ham-looking-to-make-craig-dawson-move-permanent/) midfielder [Tomas Soucek](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/17/moyes-reveals-jordan-miles-recommended-signing-tomas-soucek/) during the Hammers’ [2-1 victory](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/february/22-february/extended-highlights-west-ham-united-2-1-tottenham-hotspur) over Tottenham on Sunday.

The duo were commending the bravery shown by the Czech Republic midfielder, who [embodied the resolve](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/may/30-may/david-moyes-our-team-spirit-will-grow-even-stronger-full-group) within David Moyes’ side by standing up to block a shot despite [suffering a nasty head wound](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9283685/West-Ham-supporters-praise-Tomas-Soucek-carrying-nasty-head-clash-against-Tottenham.html).

Former Manchester City defender Richards said on [Sky Sports:](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11668/11941864/hakim-ziyech-signs-five-year-chelsea-deal-ahead-of-summer-move) ”Soucek, he’s like a man mountain in there. His mentality now is a different level.”

Redknapp replied: ”He’s like the Terminator. When he gets knocked down he bounces back up. That’s what you want in your team. He gets a massive cut but gets straight back up. That is Arnold Schwarzenegger. That is what you want in your team.”

The 25-year-old was at his inspirational best throughout the match and [made four clearances](https://www.sofascore.com/player/tomas-soucek/799041) as the Hammers withstood a late barrage of Spurs pressure.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Albeit mere quips from Redknapp and Richards, Soucek’s warrior-like spirit has been a major driving force in the West Ham midfield; and his determination to [get on the end of crosses](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jan/26/crystal-palace-west-ham-premier-league-match-report), particularly in an attacking sense, has [encapsulated the team’s desire to succeed](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/february/21-february/david-moyes-we-showed-character-effort-desire-and) this season.

Soucek tops the [goalscoring charts](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/west-ham-united/top-scorers) for the Hammers this season and has been nothing short of a revelation since first arriving last January.
