# Danny Mills hails ‘exceptional’ David Moyes and endorses Ivan Toney links

[Danny Mills](https://readwestham.com/2020/11/24/danny-mills-michail-antonio-new-contract-burden-west-ham/) has hailed [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/15/west-ham-predicted-xi-sheffield-united-home/) manager [David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/14/quiz-how-much-do-you-know-about-david-moyes/) as ‘exceptional’ whilst backing the Irons’ reported interest in Brentford striker [Ivan Toney](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/11/rival-fans-debate-west-ham-ivan-toney-transfer-links/).

Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-mills-hails-fantastic-moyes-as-he-lines-up-move-for-ivan-toney/), the [former England right-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-mills/nationalmannschaft/spieler/3743/verein_id/3299) endorsed the move for Toney after recent reports from [Eurosport](https://www.eurosport.com/football/transfers/2020-2021/lautaro-s-new-deal-pushes-city-towards-erling-haaland-son-to-sign-in-summer-transfer-noteboo_sto8111278/story.shtml) linked the Hammers with the [23-goal Championship ace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ivan-toney/leistungsdaten/spieler/251664), whilst admitting that the Bees would be sick of the sight of their fellow Londoners.

He said: “Brentford will be delighted, I’m sure. They’ve already taken one of them \[Said Benrahma\] and now they’re in for another.”

The 43-year-old went on to praise Moyes and the work he has done in [his second stint](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50942538)at the club, saying: “David Moyes is a fantastic manager and exceptional man-manager. He’s a really nice guy and his football knowledge is incredible. He’s amazingly hard-working and he knows the game inside-out.”

Praising the Scotsman’s ability to [recruit from the lower leagues](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-moyes/spielertransfers/trainer/450), Mills stated that the Hammers manager pinpoints players with ”work-rate, dedication and desire” before signing them and allowing them to improve alongside better quality teammates.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Moyes’ mantra of signing players from [lesser-explored countries](https://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/uefarankings/country/) and indeed the lower domestic divisions has thus far borne plenty of fruit.

Jarrod Bowen was signed from Hull City and has [been a revelation](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/march/12-march/jarrod-bowen-exactly-what-west-ham-all-about-dean-ashton) at the London Stadium, whilst [Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/oct/02/west-ham-sign-vladimir-coufal-from-slavia-prague-5m-transfer-news) were plucked from the relative obscurity of the Czech Republic’s top flight to become [high-quality](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/29/Show/England-West-Ham) Premier League players.

[Toney’s form](https://www.sofascore.com/player/ivan-toney/290927) certainly lends itself to top-flight football next season, but the problem for the Hammers’ chances of signing the 24-year-old could come in the form of possible promotion for Brentford, something which [looks very achievable](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/table) on their current form.
