# Gabriel Agbonlahor says Adam Armstrong would be the ‘perfect signing’ for West Ham

Former Premier League striker [Gabriel Agbonlahor](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/03/west-ham-fans-slam-agbonlahor-defence-of-grealish/) has described Blackburn Rovers marksman [Adam Armstrong](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/08/mowbray-confirms-clubs-enquired-for-adam-armstong/) as the ‘perfect signing’ for [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/11/west-ham-fans-ex-whu-employee-reluctant-transfer-stance-claim/).

The man with the [most Premier League goals for Aston Villa](https://www.avfc.co.uk/history/club-records/) told [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/agbonlahor-moyes-told-to-launch-west-ham-bid-for-next-ollie-watkins/) that the Hammers should look no further than Armstrong in the summer as David Moyes looks to bolster his attacking options.

Drawing comparisons with the [impact made by Ollie Watkins](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/12/31/ollie-watkins-aston-villas-running-man-offers-just-goals/) since he made the switch from Brentford to the Premier League, Agbonlahor has backed the 23-year-old to thrive in the top flight. He said about Armstrong:

> A lot of these Championship strikers are making the grade when they come up to the Premier League and they are showing they can do it.
>
> It wouldn’t surprise me if he was the sort of player who wouldn’t moan about being the second choice until he gets settled in. I’m sure that would be a perfect signing that David Moyes would look at.

Armstrong has been in spectacular form this season, having scored [17 times in 26 Championship appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adam-armstrong/leistungsdaten/spieler/250426), earning an average [Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/adam-armstrong/361352) match rating of 7.19 along the way. [Only Brentford’s Ivan Toney](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/championship/torschuetzenliste/wettbewerb/GB2/saison_id/2020) has outscored him in the division in 2020/21.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing a high-quality striker in the summer seems imperative for Moyes after a quiet January saw the Irons left with [only Michail Antonio](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) to carry the centre-forward burden.

With another [reported target](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9154337/Arsenal-tracking-Brentfords-Ivan-Toney-West-Ham-interested.html) in Toney seemingly indebted to [fire Brentford to the promised land](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/table), Armstrong – whose Blackburn side seem [less ready to make the step](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/championship/tabelle/wettbewerb/GB2/saison_id/2020) to the Premier League – could be a more realistic option.

The former Newcastle striker already possesses some of the qualities which Moyes holds in high esteem from his strikers, with the [ability to hold up the ball](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/136460/Show/Adam-Armstrong) important when operating as the focal point. Therefore, Agbonlahor is justified in recommending Armstrong as an ideal target for West Ham.
