# Ivan Toney an ‘intriguing option’ for West Ham

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/10/manchester-united-1-0-west-ham-player-ratings/) reportedly view Brentford striker [Ivan Toney](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/02/ivan-toney-would-be-perfect-successor-to-michail-antonio-at-west-ham/) as an ‘intriguing option’, according to [Eurosport](https://www.eurosport.com/football/transfers/2020-2021/lautaro-s-new-deal-pushes-city-towards-erling-haaland-son-to-sign-in-summer-transfer-noteboo_sto8111278/story.shtml).

The Hammers [struggled to find](https://www.football365.com/news/west-ham-identify-new-target-reims-striker-search-boulaye-dia) a suitable replacement for Sebastien Haller last month and opted to bide their time in search of a centre-forward instead of going down the [well-worn path of panic-buying](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/news/west-ham-moyes-january-striker-19750810) to suit a need.

Toney has made a [remarkable start to the 2020/21 season](https://www.sofascore.com/player/ivan-toney/290927) following his switch from League One Peterborough last summer and the Irons are ‘monitoring’ the 24-year-old’s development.

The foremost priority for David Moyes in the summer will surely be to seek a striking addition, and with [22 goals in just 27 Championship appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ivan-toney/leistungsdaten/spieler/251664) this season – [five more than anyone else](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/top-scorers) in the division – the former Newcastle youngster could fit the bill.

Furthermore, the Irons already seem to have put in the groundwork towards building a good relationship with the Bees, having already [signed Said Benrhama on a permanent basis](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/october/16-october/west-ham-united-seal-said-benrahma-loan-deal) recently and allowed experienced centre-back [Winston Reid to join](https://www.brentfordfc.com/news/2021/february/brentford-sign-new-zealand-international-winston-reid-from-west-ham-united/) the west Londoners on loan.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

With the wherewithal to make this deal a reality after [receiving £21m for Haller](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/haller-joins-ajax-from-west-ham-in-225m-club-record-deal/b0536muy2k5c18mwacv3b7aqm), West Ham would be foolish not to at least attempt to bring Toney to the London Stadium.

Back in 2016, he was [described as](https://www.shropshirestar.com/sport/football/shrewsbury-town-fc/2016/08/15/micky-mellon-delighted-by-terrific-ivan-toney/) a ‘top, top player’ by then-Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon, a bold tag to which the forward is living up this season.

Whether this deal is feasible could depend on whether Brentford earn promotion this season, with the Bees currently [sitting second in the Championship](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/table), with their prolific frontman’s goals an integral factor in their push for the Premier League.
