# West Ham fans dismiss Darren Bent’s FA Cup claim

Former England striker Darren Bent has claimed that [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/09/psg-made-deadline-day-attempt-to-sign-manuel-lanzini/) fans would prefer to finish fifth in the Premier League than win the FA Cup, a claim which has been unequivocally denied by many of the Irons faithful.

Bent, who represented England on [12 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/darren-bent/nationalmannschaft/spieler/13239/verein_id/3299), told [talkSPORT Breakfast](https://twitter.com/talkSPORT/status/1359102997805080584) that West Ham should prioritise league success over a cup run.

Currently, the Hammers lie [one place outside](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) Champions League qualification for next season and could be on the cusp of an astonishing campaign.

[David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/08/david-moyes-admits-west-ham-could-struggle-for-good-value-deals/)‘ side travel to Old Trafford tonight to face Manchester United in the FA Cup fifth round. The Irons [last won major silverware in 1980](https://www.whufc.com/club/history/greatest-matches/west-ham-united-1-arsenal-0) when they lifted the [oldest domestic football trophy in the world](https://www.nationalfootballmuseum.com/collectionsnews/object-week-oldest-surviving-fa-cup-trophy/). They [on the verge](https://www.thefa.com/news/2020/apr/05/liverpool-west-ham-classic-fa-cup-final-report-030420) of repeating the feat in 2006 against Liverpool until a Steven Gerrard wondergoal and subsequent penalty shoot-out agony saw the Reds prevail.

These Hammers have vilified Bent for his claims…
