# PSG made deadline day attempt to sign Manuel Lanzini

Paris Saint Germain attempted to land [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/09/pogba-bailly-miss-manchester-united-west-ham-fa-cup-tie/) playmaker [Manuel Lanzini](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/18/west-ham-could-offer-cash-and-lanzini-for-morgan-sanson/) on transfer deadline day, according to a report from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/psg-failed-in-last-gasp-move-to-sign-west-ham-star/).

The report claimed that the Ligue 1 superpower made a late enquiry to take the Argentine on loan after they had [failed to lure Dele Alli](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/dele-alli-furious-reason-failed-psg-move-spurs) from Tottenham.

Lanzini has [rarely featured](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manuel-lanzini/leistungsdaten/spieler/135853) for David Moyes’ side this season, although  the 27-year-old made himself a hero during a substitute appearance against Tottenham in October with a [stunning late equaliser to cap a remarkable comeback](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/october/19-october/all-angles-manuel-lanzinis-stunner-tottenham) from 3-0 down.

The dual arrival and subsequent impact of Jesse Lingard and Said Benrahma has meant that Lanzini has made just [two Premier League starts](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manuel-lanzini/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/135853/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/379) this season, though.

The Irons could have used PSG’s interest in the 27-year-old to perhaps manoeuvre for the arrival of Idrissa Gueye, who was [reported to be of interest](https://twitter.com/lequipedestelle/status/1356283761588117504) to Moyes during the transfer window and was [willing to leave](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9208191/Newcastle-launch-ambitious-favour-PSG-midfielder-Idrissa-Gueye.html) in search of regular action.

Gueye [drew comparisons](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/evertons-idrissa-gueye-new-ngolo-12965076) to Chelsea star N’Golo Kante during his time in England with Everton and was [described as a ‘machine’](https://www.kickoff.com/news/articles/world-news/categories/news/international/idrissa-gueye-what-paris-saint-germain-told-african-star-after-real-madrid-victory/663653) by his former PSG boss (and now-Chelsea manager) Thomas Tuchel.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Had a potential swap deal been on the table for the Irons to exploit, then this could be deemed a missed opportunity to utilise the out-of-favour Argentina ace as transfer leverage.

Despite Lazini’s fleeting moments of impact this season, there is no doubt that his role in the squad [has diminished](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manuel-lanzini/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/135853), and Moyes could have utilised a defensive-minded midfielder to greater effect.

Thus far, until the [late and unjust dismissal](https://www.skysports.com/football/fulham-vs-west-ham/429059) of Tomas Soucek at the weekend, he and Declan Rice have [played every minute](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/mins_played) in the league this term, a monumental feat and something which is likely not to stand the rigours of the entire season.
