# West Ham target Ahmed Musa could still be available

Former Leicester City striker [Ahmed Musa](https://readwestham.com/2020/11/28/west-ham-target-ahmed-musa-desires-top-level-europe-move/) remains available on a free transfer as a proposed move to West Brom stalls, according to a report from the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9231593/West-Brom-risk-LOSING-chance-sign-free-agent-Ahmed-Musa-Baggies-cash-strapped-January.html).

Having [trained with the Baggies last week](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/ahmed-musa-update-west-brom-19743913), it looked as though Musa was set to sign at The Hawthorns until the end of the season. However, due to[West Brom’s spending](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-bromwich-albion/transfers/verein/984) in January, their stretched finances could put pay to the deal.

The [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9231593/West-Brom-risk-LOSING-chance-sign-free-agent-Ahmed-Musa-Baggies-cash-strapped-January.html) claimed that fellow Premier League clubs Southampton, Brighton and Burnley are possible destinations for the 28-year-old. Having been [offered the Nigerian previously](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/exclusive-newcastle-west-ham-among-clubs-offered-ahmed-musa) and still in dire need of a striker, [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/08/fans-bemoan-david-moyes-fitness-update-on-michail-antonio/)could yet seize this opportunity.

During his time in England, Musa struggled to live up to the [£16m fee paid](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/jul/08/leicester-ahmed-musa-confirm-signing) by the Foxes, scoring just [five times in 33 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ahmed-musa/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/168337/verein/1003). After signing for Saudi Arabia side Al Nassr, the [87-cap Nigeria international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ahmed-musa/nationalmannschaft/spieler/168337/verein_id/3444) managed 11 goals in 14 assists during his time in the Middle East.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

In normal circumstances, David Moyes would shy far away from a move for a previously [failed Premier League striker](https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/ahmed-musa-leicester-city-transfer-1860592).

However, with the West Ham manager already [citing fatigue in Michail Antonio](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/february/08-february/team-news-david-moyes-offers-michail-antonio-update) after less than a month of being the [last remaining out-and-out striker](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/kadernachposition/verein/379) in the Irons’ squad, it could be a case of needs must in east London.

Without a transfer fee attached, bringing in Musa on a short-term contract until the end of the season comes with minimal risk and should be seriously considered.
