# Tony Mowbray confirms clubs ‘enquired’ for West Ham target Adam Armstrong

Given Blackburn Rovers striker [Adam Armstrong](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/01/tony-mowbray-discusses-lack-of-offers-for-west-ham-target-adam-armstrong/)‘s prolific first half of this season, many might have expected the 23-year-old to be a wanted man during the January transfer window.

However, despite [reported interest](https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/football-news/blackburn-rovers-armstrong-transfer-interest-19583940) from a host of Premier League clubs including [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/08/fulham-0-0-west-ham-player-ratings/), Rovers manager Tony Mowbray [recently confirmed](https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/19053246.mowbray-lack-interest-rovers-star-adam-armstrong/)that there were no offers forthcoming for the former Newcastle striker last month.

On the back of [further reports](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/13969813/west-ham-blackburn-armstrong-transfer/) over the weekend linking David Moyes with a growing interest in the [17-goal Championship ace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adam-armstrong/leistungsdaten/spieler/250426), Mowbray has reiterated his stance and the lack of activity. He told the [Lancashire Telegraph](https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/19072305.mowbray-re-iterates-armstrong-message-amid-west-ham-links/): ”I’ve had a conversation with a couple of Premier League managers but they’ve not been pushy, just enquired.”

West Ham could really have used a striker with the goal return that Armstrong has produced this term, with Moyes left relying [almost exclusively on Michail Antonio](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) to play as a lone striker for the remainder of the season.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

The Hammers’ lack of ways to change the course of a match and to perhaps adapt their style came to the fore on Saturday in the [obdurate goalless draw](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/february/07-february/extended-highlights-fulham-0-0-west-ham-united) against Fulham. With Antonio uncharacteristically [off the boil](https://www.sofascore.com/player/michail-antonio/47772), Moyes would have almost certainly turned to striking options from the bench, if he had any.

In spite of January’s [recruitment efforts](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/transfer-news/west-ham-striker-transfer-window-19749082), the Irons have been left bereft of centre-forward alternatives and Armstrong, whilst [expensive](https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/transfer-news/blackburn-armstrong-west-ham-moyes-19590662), would represent a highly viable option in the summer as someone with a record of scoring goals, as well as room to grow as a player.

The potential for a summer move may be taken out of West Ham’s hands should [Rovers earn promotion](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/table) to the Premier League – something which would likely see Armstrong remain at Ewood Park.
