# Fabian Balbuena received ‘very juicy’ proposal for January move

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/03/west-ham-target-nemanja-radonjic-hertha-berlin-deadline-day-move/) defender [Fabian Balbuena](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/01/report-west-ham-could-sell-fabian-balbuena-permanently/) received a ‘juicy proposal’ from an unnamed Arabian club in January, according to the player’s agent Renato Bittar, who was speaking to Futgol of Universo 970 AM \[via [Versus](https://versus.lanacion.com.py/versus/2021/02/02/la-respuesta-de-fabian-balbuena-a-una-jugosa-oferta-del-futbol-arabe/)\].

Balbuena expressed his desire to stay in Europe and, as such the Paraguayan international remained with the Hammers beyond Monday night’s transfer deadline, with his agent [claiming](https://versus.lanacion.com.py/versus/2021/02/02/la-respuesta-de-fabian-balbuena-a-una-jugosa-oferta-del-futbol-arabe/): “We had a very juicy Arab soccer proposal and Fabian told me: ‘Let’s wait, let’s stay in Europe’.”

The 29-year-old was a [mainstay in David Moyes’ selection process](https://www.sofascore.com/player/fabian-balbuena/339447) in the early weeks of the season, but has recently found himself either on the[periphery of matters](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fabian-balbuena/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/285548/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/379) due to [injury and isolation](https://versus.lanacion.com.py/versus/2021/02/02/la-respuesta-de-fabian-balbuena-a-una-jugosa-oferta-del-futbol-arabe/).

The centre-back was never likely to be allowed to leave the club on deadline day following [Winston Reid’s loan departure to Brentford](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/february/01-february/winston-reid-joins-brentford-loan). However, speculation regarding the 14-cap central defender has increased of late, with [Lazio rumoured to be interested](https://www.ilmessaggero.it/sport/calcio/lazio_lazio_calcio_sokratis_todibo_difensore-5718327.html), a link which Bittar was keen to downplay.

There will need to be a resolution regarding Balbuena sooner rather than later, with his [contract expiring](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fabian-balbuena/profil/spieler/285548) at the end of the current campaign.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

David Moyes has seemingly dropped Balbuena from his plans despite [doing very little wrong](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/282871/MatchStatistics/Fabi%C3%A1n-Balbuena) in the early weeks of the season.

The former Corinthians defender was a victim of [missing games through injury](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/players/reason-fabian-balbuena-didnt-play-19472476)and not being able to regain his place, having been usurped by the [undroppable performances](https://www.sofascore.com/player/craig-dawson/50027) of Craig Dawson.

Valued at £7.2m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fabian-balbuena/marktwertverlauf/spieler/285548), losing Balbuena for free in the summer would be a blow to the coffers of the club, while also seeing them shorn of a defender who has [served the Irons well in 52 Premier League appearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/282871/History/Fabi%C3%A1n-Balbuena) to date.
