# West Ham target Nemanja Radonjic performs transfer U-turn

Reported [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/02/football-fans-respond-to-david-moyes-praise-of-jack-grealish/)target [Nemanja Radonjic](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/07/readwestham-com-2020-12-07-west-ham-loan-move-nemanja-radonjic/) ([The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/), 6 December 2020, page 63) performed a transfer deadline day U-turn to contribute to the [bizarre resignation](https://www.arise.tv/andre-villas-boas-resigns-after-marseille-ntchams-signing/) of Andre Villas-Boas at Marseille.

The winger, who was also [wanted by Southampton](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/13634716/southampton-transfer-demarai-gray-leicester/), had [previously made clear his intentions](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/radonjic-non-fara-come-maxime-lopez-sassuolo-letto-su-internet-voglio-restare-all-om-1481184) to remain at the Ligue 1 club before [completing a move to Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin](https://www.footmercato.net/a8019898811508576324-nemanja-radonjic-explique-son-depart-surprise-de-lom) on the final day of the transfer window .

If the Serbian’s backtracking wasn’t enough, Villas-Boas [claimed to know nothing about the deal](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/andre-villas-boas-press-conference-marseille-b1796323.html) until it had already been completed, a contributing factor in the [former Tottenham boss walking away](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55905232#:~:text=Marseille%20have%20suspended%20manager%20Andre,the%20club's%20%22sporting%20policy%22.) from the job.

Nothing ultimately came of the Hammers’ interest in the 24-year-old with [capabilities of playing on either wing](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nemanja-radonjic/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/245078), who had made a [bright start to the season](https://www.sofascore.com/player/nemanja-radonjic/802665) with Marseille, directly contributing to [three goals in 12 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nemanja-radonjic/leistungsdaten/spieler/245078).

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

[David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/02/west-ham-fans-lament-david-moyes-transfer-comments-strikers/) clearly didn’t see a winger as a priority in January, with Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals [both performing admirably](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/29/Show/England-West-Ham). With Radonjic having [completed the move to Berlin](https://twitter.com/HerthaBSC_EN/status/1356596055106813953) in a loan-to-buy deal, the Irons won’t feel they have missed out by not signing the Serbian.

In fact, Moyes may feel he has dodged a bullet on a player who would claim to have ‘no intention’ of leaving before swiftly exiting, given the [burgeoning harmony](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/january/03-january/aaron-cresswell-our-game-plan-and-team-spirit-can-take-us) at the London Stadium after suffering their own fair share of [wantaway trauma](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/players/marko-arnautovic-west-ham-gone-16524134) in the past.
