# Report: Winston Reid ‘close’ to agreeing move to Brentford

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/01/west-ham-player-ratings-liverpool-h-3/) central defender Winston Reid is close to agreeing on a move to Brentford according to [Football League World](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/exclusive-brentford-closing-in-on-transfer-agreement-to-sign-west-ham-player/).

The Championship side are in the market for a defender as [they push for promotion](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/table)to the top flight having missed out in last years play-offs.

The 32-year-old has been a loyal servant to the Hammers having made[223 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/winston-reid/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/37526/verein/379) for the club in his 11 years in east London.

However, a serious knee injury saw the Kiwi centre-back [fall down the pecking order](https://www.sofascore.com/player/winston-reid/14120) at the London Stadium before a loan [move to MLS side Sporting Kansas City](https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020/06/25/winston-reid-joins-sporting-kc-training-ahead-mls-back-tournament) last year.

Having returned from the USA in December, the experienced defender [hasn’t featured](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/winston-reid/leistungsdaten/spieler/37526) for David Moyes’ side and could be on his way out once more.

The report doesn’t specify whether the deal would be on a permanent basis or a loan deal until the end of the season, with the former likely to suit the Irons.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Without wanting to preempt anything in this [truncated and at times bizarre season](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53838831#:~:text=A%20shortened%20top%2Dflight%20campaign,break%20because%20of%20fixture%20congestion.), it seems highly unlikely Moyes would find himself in a situation whereby he is relying upon Reid.

There have been plenty of[rumours surrounding Irons’ centre-halves](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1391466/Liverpool-transfer-news-Issa-Diop-West-Ham-Jurgen-Klopp) in the last few days and it seems almost certain one of Issa Diop, [Fabian Balbuena](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/01/report-west-ham-could-sell-fabian-balbuena-permanently/) and Reid will leave before the deadline.

That trio are clearly seen as surplus to requirements by Moyes as [Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna](https://www.whoscored.com/PlayerComparison) forge a formidable partnership at the back.
