# Report: West Ham could sell Fabian Balbuena permanently

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/01/west-ham-player-ratings-liverpool-h-3/) are believed to be open to selling Fabian Balbuena as the January transfer window deadline approaches, [according to a report from The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/01/31/could-happen-last-day-transfer-window/).

The report claims the Hammers would only consider substantial permanent offers for the defender, with a loan move off the cards.

The 29-year-old centre-back was a mainstay in [David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/29/david-moyes-contract-to-be-extended-by-one-year-at-a-minimum/)‘ selection in the early weeks of the season where he made[12 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fabian-balbuena/leistungsdaten/spieler/285548)in the Premier League.

However, with the form of Craig Dawson and the continued impressive performances of Angelo Ogbonna, the [Paraguay international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fabian-balbuena/nationalmannschaft/spieler/285548/verein_id/3581)has found himself on the periphery of late.

With speculation rife around the[future of both Issa Diop](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1391100/Liverpool-submit-West-Ham-transfer-enquiry-Issa-Diop-loan-Premier-League)and Winston Reid and whether they will remain with the Hammers beyond deadline day, Balbuena could be a surprise departure from the London Stadium.

Balbuena made a [promising start](https://www.sofascore.com/player/fabian-balbuena/339447)to the campaign and it seemed as though the experienced Iron would be the first-choice partner to Ogbonna this term.

Although it seems as if his impression wasn’t a lasting one as [Dawson comfortably usurped](https://www.sofascore.com/player/craig-dawson/50027) the Paraguay star in the pecking order.

With five senior centre-backs in the [squad](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad), there is definitely scope to allow one to leave this month, especially if it allowed an incoming elsewhere.

With the Irons [still in need of a striker](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-fc-news-david-moyes-lingard-striker-search-b917949.html)this month, a permanent fee for Balbuena, who is valued at[£7.2m by Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fabian-balbuena/marktwertverlauf/spieler/285548), could further fund any potential incoming as the final hours loom large.
