# West Ham ‘in talks’ to sign Hwang Hee-chan

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/27/west-ham-anthony-lozano-transfer-rumours/) are ‘in talks’ with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig to sign forward [Hwang Hee-chan](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/26/west-ham-fans-excited-hwang-hee-chan-transfer-links/), according to [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12200522/west-ham-transfer-news-said-benrahma-signs-permanent-deal-hammers-in-talks-over-rb-leipzigs-hwang-hee-chan).

They claimed that Irons manager David Moyes is set to make a decision on the South Korean in the coming days as [the search for a striker](https://talksport.com/football/821406/west-ham-signing-striker-youssef-en-nesyri/) goes into the final days of the transfer window.

Moyes has been left with [only Michail Antonio](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/kadernachposition/verein/379) in terms of senior strikers since January 8, when [Sebastien Haller left the club for Ajax](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55576847). In that time, the Irons have risen to [fourth in the Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) with [Tomas Soucek in particular](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tomas-soucek/leistungsdaten/spieler/283628) stepping up to the goalscoring plate.

Hwang, a [32-cap international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hee-chan-hwang/nationalmannschaft/spieler/292246/verein_id/3589), only joined RB Leipzig in the summer from Red Bull Salzburg as a [replacement for Chelsea’s Timo Werner](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/rb-leipzig-sign-hwang-hee-chan-from-red-bull-salzburg-11956).

Having arrived with [38 goal involvements in 40 matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hee-chan-hwang/leistungsdaten/spieler/292246/plus/0?saison=2019) in Austria last season, the 25-year-old has struggled to adapt to the German top flight and is [without a goal in seven league appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hee-chan-hwang/leistungsdaten/spieler/292246) for his current club.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

With just four days remaining in the transfer window, West Ham need to see one of [the many striker links](https://www.theguardian.com/football/who-scored-blog/2021/jan/13/five-strikers-who-could-replace-sebastien-haller-at-west-ham) come to fruition.

Judging Hwang on this season’s output is perhaps unfair, given that he missed [more than a month with illness](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hee-chan-hwang/verletzungen/spieler/292246) whilst trying to find his feet in a new country.

Signing the 25-year-old off the [back of his Austrian form](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/hwang-hee-chan-takes-werners-old-number-as-he-swaps-salzburg-for-/o728oqmwhhqw168dwnognb6sm), Hammers would have been over the moon, so that’s the stance we are taking on this potential arrival.
