# David Moyes ‘keen’ on Billy Gilmour loan deal

[The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/west-ham-transfers-news-moyes-23395557?2=) have reported that [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/28/west-ham-prepare-fresh-move-for-youssef-en-nesyri/) manager David Moyes is weighing up the possibility of bringing Chelsea starlet [Billy Gilmour](https://readchelsea.com/2020/11/19/drinkwater-gilmour-feature-chelsea-u21-bristol-rovers-efl-trophy/) to the London Stadium on loan this month.

The Scottish 19-year-old is [highly-regarded at Stamford Bridge](https://www.eurosport.com/football/champions-league/2020-2021/billy-gilmour-frank-lampard-praises-outstanding-midfielder-after-return-from-injury_sto8025087/story.shtml) but could potentially be allowed to leave the club on loan as new manager Thomas Tuchel makes his plans for the rest of the season.

Gilmour made a fast start to his senior career with an imperious [man of the match debut display](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/west-ham-transfers-news-moyes-23395557?2=) in last season’s FA Cup against runaway Premier League leaders and eventual champions Liverpool.

Further [impressive performances](https://www.sofascore.com/player/gilmour-billy/907668) followed from the teenager but his development in the first team was brought to an abrupt halt when the youngster was forced to [undergo knee surgery](https://talksport.com/football/730192/billy-gilmour-injury-frank-lampard-chelsea-knee-operation/) in the summer.

Now back to full fitness, Gilmour has [played six times for the Chelsea first team](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/billy-gilmour/leistungsdaten/spieler/423744)this season, although he was [left out of the squad entirely](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chelsea-fc_wolverhampton-wanderers/index/spielbericht/3429688) for Tuchel’s first match at the helm against Wolves yesterday.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Whilst there is no doubting Gilmour’s talent, there is a question as to whether he is precisely what the Hammers need this month, especially with a [similar deal for Jesse Lingard](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jan/28/west-ham-pushing-for-lingard-loan-after-sealing-permanent-benrahma-deal-manchester-united) in the pipeline.

Also, the Irons are at full tilt in central midfield, with [Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek](https://www.whoscored.com/PlayerComparison) are arguably the strongest pairing in that position across the entire league.  The club would also be required to [tie down Craig Dawson](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12102754/craig-dawson-west-ham-sign-watford-defender-on-season-long-loan) on a permanent basis in order to sign the youngster on loan due to [domestic loan restraints](https://www.premierleague.com/news/464747).

All of that aside, the talented teenager is [in a different mould](https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/chelsea/gilmour-has-all-the-attributes-required-to-be-a-star-beams-boss-lampard-39026661.html) to Rice and Soucek and could offer [something entirely different](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/total_tackle) from the ever-present West Ham midfield duo.

With a [bright future](https://www.planetfootball.com/trending/once-again-billy-gilmour-has-proven-he-is-chelseas-very-own-billiesta/) ahead of Gilmour, it mustn’t be overlooked that a successful loan spell in east London could pave the way for a future permanent transfer.
