# West Ham are frontrunners for Jesse Lingard signature

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/26/west-ham-fans-excited-hwang-hee-chan-transfer-links/) have found themselves in pole position to secure the signing of Manchester United midfielder [Jesse Lingard](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/25/west-ham-jesse-lingard-transfer-rumours/) after Sheffield United pulled out of the race, according to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-close-in-on-two-new-signings-unexpected-sheffield-united-move/).

David Moyes could now be set to [link up once more with the 28-year-old](https://talksport.com/football/728334/west-ham-david-moyes-jesse-lingard-phil-jones-manchester-united/) after the [former England regular](https://talksport.com/football/629893/england-gareth-southgate-kyle-walker-dele-alli-jesse-lingard/) was given the green light to find a loan move for the remainder of the season.

After plenty of unrest over his future at Old Trafford, this week Ole Gunnar Solskjaer [reportedly agreed](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/solskjaer-addresses-jesse-lingard-future-tottenham-transfer-shut-down) to let Lingard leave the club after not using the midfielder in a [single Premier League match](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdaten/spieler/141660) this term.

The Hammers were among a host of suitors for the 28-year-old, with the Premier League’s bottom club Sheffield United [the previous favourites](https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united/sheffield-united-transfer-news-jesse-lingard-blades-and-west-brom-latest-relegation-rivals-eye-ps12m-swap-deal-3110824) to sign the [24-cap England international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/nationalmannschaft/spieler/141660/verein_id/3299). However, [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-close-in-on-two-new-signings-unexpected-sheffield-united-move/) claimed that the Blades have now pulled out of the running.

Despite not being a regular at Old Trafford for some time under Solskjaer, Lingard maintains a market value of £9m according to [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/marktwertverlauf/spieler/141660).

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing Lingard for the remainder of the season without an obligation to buy in the summer would be a deal with zero risks attached for the Irons – any other structure of a deal would be ill-advised given his dearth of football in recent months.

The midfielder was at once a [potent Premier League player](https://theathletic.co.uk/1719405/2020/04/04/jesse-lingard-manchester-united-no-10-transfer-raiola/), but the last 18 months have seen a [dramatic fall from grace](https://www.90min.com/posts/jesse-lingard-man-utd-future-latest) for him.

Moyes’ pre-established relationship with Lingard could inspire a return to former glories as the West Ham manager looks to further bolster the [Premier League quality](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) within his squad.
