# West Ham in the mix to sign Jesse Lingard

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/25/west-ham-fans-excited-transfer-links-odsonne-edouard/) are among the leading contenders to sign Manchester United outcast [Jesse Lingard](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/18/west-ham-remain-interested-in-jesse-lingard/), according to a report from the [Sheffield Star](https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united/sheffield-united-wait-final-transfer-decision-coming-days-newcastle-west-ham-and-west-brom-join-race-3111348).

The [one-time England regular](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/mar/26/jesse-lingard-england-manchester-united) looks set to decide on his future in the coming days after his manager [Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided](https://talksport.com/football/823336/ole-gunnar-solskjaer-decision-jesse-lingard-loan-man-united/) to allow the attacking midfielder the opportunity to leave this month.

The Hammers have been [linked with a move for Lingard](https://www.90min.com/posts/david-moyes-considering-transfer-man-utd-duo-phil-jones-jesse-lingard) for some time, but David Moyes faces [competition from a host of Premier League clubs](https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united/sheffield-united-wait-final-transfer-decision-coming-days-newcastle-west-ham-and-west-brom-join-race-3111348) as well as overseas interest in his former Red Devils protege.

Lingard, who was [described as a ‘unique’](https://onefootball.com/en/news/manchester-united-legend-praises-unique-jesse-lingard-20514751) player by former teammate and current Manchester United first team coach Michael Carrick, hasn’t [made a single appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdaten/spieler/141660) in the league this season.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

West Ham’s need for Lingard isn’t as apparent as it once was following the signings and [subsequent impact](https://www.whoscored.com/PlayerComparison) of wingers Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma.

That said, if Moyes were able to inspire the [24-cap England international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/nationalmannschaft/spieler/141660/verein_id/3299) to anywhere near his best level, then the Irons would be acquiring a top-quality player with the [ability to step up in big games](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/36351825) when it matters most.

With international and [European experience](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/141660), if there’s a deal to be done without a crazy fee involved, it’s surely one worth exploring and could ultimately pay dividends should Lingard prove to be a difference-maker on occasion – a role [in which he was adept](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/man-utd-liverpool-jesse-lingard-big-game-player-outcast) during his best career period.
