# Kevin Campbell believes Adam Armstrong would be a ‘great addition’

Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell has given his backing to [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/25/west-ham-considering-andre-silva-move-transfer-rumours/)‘s rumoured interest in Blackburn Rovers marksman [Adam Armstrong](https://readwestham.com/2020/11/28/west-ham-fans-excited-adam-armstrong-transfer-links/).

Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/could-be-a-great-addition-exclusive-pundit-reacts-to-insiders-west-ham-transfer-reveal/), Campbell said that, whilst the 23-year-old would cost ‘big money’ to sign this month, he would make a ‘great addition’ to the Hammers ranks. He explained:

> If you bring another striker in for big money, he will have to be able to play another position. You would not spend big money to have a player warm the bench.
>
> Michail Antonio has been their star man and when he is not there they struggle at times. He causes defences a lot of problems with his pace and power.
>
> Armstrong could be a great addition but he is very different from Antonio. They need somebody who can be an understudy type.

Campbell’s comments stem from a claim made by a highly-regarded source with the inside track on the Irons, [ExWHUemployee](https://twitter.com/ExWHUemployee), on his [West Ham Way podcast](https://t.co/tyt16T6UwD?amp=1), during which it was suggested David Moyes could make a move for the [Championship’s joint-top scorer](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/top-scorers).

There has been plenty of [interest from across the Premier League](https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/football-news/blackburn-rovers-armstrong-transfer-interest-19583940) in the man [described as ‘dynamic’](https://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/sport/tony-mowbray-full-of-praise-for-dynamic-blackburn-striker-adam-armstrong/) by Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray after his excellent start to the season.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing Armstrong would present little risk in terms of output based on the [former Newcastle youngster’s](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/adam-armstrong-leave-newcastle-united-14988644) current numbers.

However, with a [£30m price tag](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-would-cash-adam-armstrong-19304918) and the likelihood of Moyes having to change the system to incorporate the 23-year-old, this doesn’t seem a sensible deal at the moment.

Armstrong wouldn’t be willing to patiently wait his turn for game-time at the London Stadium, having become a star at Blackburn whilst Antonio excels for the Irons.
