# West Ham’s ‘interest is strong’ in Giovanni Simeone

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/20/west-ham-fans-laud-michail-antonio-solo-run-west-brom/) hold a ‘strong’ interest in Cagliari striker Giovanni Simeone according to [Gianluca di Marzio](https://gianlucadimarzio.com/it/calciomercato-cagliari-zaza-torino-pavoletti).

The report stated that “West Ham’s interest is strong on Simeone” as they seek to [replace Sebastien Haller](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jan/08/west-ham-sell-sebastien-haller-to-ajax-at-25m-loss#:~:text=West%20Ham%20will%20seek%20to,the%20end%20of%20the%20season.), and the Serie A club could sanction the sale as they look to fund a move for Torino’s Simone Zaza.

Simeone is the son of former Argentina international and current [Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/diego-simeone/profil/trainer/2868). The 25-year-old has [six Argentina caps](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/giovanni-simeone/nationalmannschaft/spieler/282388/verein_id/3437) of his own and has enjoyed a strong start to the 2020/21 campaign, with [five goals and one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/giovanni-simeone/leistungsdaten/spieler/282388) to his name.

[David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/19/david-moyes-strong-chance-of-no-new-signings-january-transfers/) has already [confirmed](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55710396) that a striker is the club’s number one transfer priority this month and multiple enquiries have already been made. Simeone whose best performance this season saw him score a [brace at Torino](https://www.sofascore.com/player/giovanni-simeone/341143), could be among the contenders.

His [Transfermarkt value of £15.3m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/giovanni-simeone/marktwertverlauf/spieler/282388) makes his an affordable option as [Moyes aims to be shrewd](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/david-moyes-doesn-t-want-to-add-to-list-of-failed-west-ham-b900208.html)with his January expenditure.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Far from living on the coattails of his father’s successes, Simeone junior has [forged a career](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/giovanni-simeone/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/282388/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=IT1&pos=&trainer_id=) of his own in one of [Europe’s elite leagues](https://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/uefarankings/country/) and should be considered a viable option in West Ham’s striker search this month.

Despite never being a massively prolific goal-getter, his [numbers have been consistent](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/giovanni-simeone/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/282388)almost throughout his career and he could present an affordable opportunity for the Hammers.

If the striker has inherited half of the [passion and dark arts from his father](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2002/may/19/worldcupfootball2002.sport9), West Ham fans could at least look forward to an intriguing watch should be swap Sardinia for London.
