# West Ham have offer for Gaëtan Laborde rejected

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/19/youssef-en-nesyri-bid-clearly-insufficient/)have had an opening bid rejected for Montpellier striker [Gaëtan Laborde](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/07/west-ham-keen-on-signing-gaetan-laborde-montpellier/), according to [The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jan/19/west-ham-fail-with-offer-for-montpellier-striker-gaetan-laborde).

The Hammers have reportedly offered to take the 26-year-old on loan until the end of the current campaign with an obligation to buy in the summer. However, the French Ligue 1 club are only interested in an immediate permanent deal, with the report claiming that an [offer of £16m](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2021/villas-boas-on-gaetan-laborde-he-is-a-player-with-an-expensive-price-tag/)would be required to force Montpellier’s hand.

[David Moyes is on the lookout](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55710396) for a new centre-forward as Sebastien Haller’s departure left the[West Ham squad](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) with only the [injury-prone](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-michail-antonio-fitness-update-b558703.html) Michail Antonio as a recognised senior striker.

Laborde has [six goals and six assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gaetan-laborde/leistungsdaten/spieler/181378) in 20 Ligue 1 appearances this season, arousing the interest of the Hammers.

The club may have turned their attentions back to the Frenchman after a [reported bid of £22.5m](https://theathletic.com/2327390/2021/01/18/haaland-ozil-football-soccer/) for Sevilla ace Youssef En-Nesyri was rejected by the La Liga side, who are [looking for almost double that amount](https://insidefutbol.com/2021/01/18/sevilla-set-price-for-west-ham-to-pay-for-youssef-en-nesyri/490456/) for their highly-prized asset.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Having led a rather [uneventful career](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gaetan-laborde/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/181378) up until this season, West Ham’s interest in Laborde is of great intrigue. Credited for his work rate, perhaps it’s the similarities with Antonio which have endeared the [former France under-20 international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gaetan-laborde/nationalmannschaft/spieler/181378/verein_id/23658) to Moyes.

Montpellier’s rejection of an initial loan comes as no surprise, with French clubs [citing immediate and major financial concern](https://twitter.com/GFFN/status/1351105174513856515), waiting until the summer to receive a substantial fee is of little use.
