# West Ham remain interested in Jesse Lingard move

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/18/west-ham-could-offer-cash-and-lanzini-for-morgan-sanson/) remain interested in out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder [Jesse Lingard](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/05/west-ham-in-talks-with-jesse-lingard-agents-transfer-rumours/), according to [ESPN](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/team?id=448).

The 28-year-old recently [saw his contract extended](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9102221/Manchester-United-trigger-one-year-extension-Jesse-Lingards-contract.html) at Old Trafford, despite making just three appearances so far this season, all of which have come in domestic cups ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdaten/spieler/141660)).

The report names the Hammers alongside London rivals Tottenham and a host of other clubs both at home and abroad as holding an interest in the former Brighton loanee.

Capped [24 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/nationalmannschaft/spieler/141660/verein_id/3299) by England and a [winner of the Europa League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/erfolge/spieler/141660) in 2017 with the Red Devils, the Warrington native was previously a prized asset for both club and country. However, a dramatic decline in form has left him [seriously considering](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/jesse-lingard-manchester-united-future-a4506946.html) where his future lies.

West Ham manager David Moyes has been a [long-term admirer](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1306284/Man-Utd-transfer-news-David-Moyes-West-Ham-reunion-Jesse-Lingard-Phil-Jones) of the 28-year-old, although the [signing of Said Benrahma](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/october/16-october/west-ham-united-seal-said-benrahma-loan-deal) in October may have scuppered a potential move for the Manchester United midfielder.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing Lingard would represent a dive into the unknown for the Hammers. With [so little match form](https://www.sofascore.com/player/jesse-lingard/205508) from which to judge, it’s difficult to know exactly what type of player the club would be getting.

Having previously [been a proven performer](https://footballwhispers.com/blog/this-isnt-form-lingard-will-be-a-star-for-years-to-come/) on the big stage, if the [pre-existing relationship between Moyes and Lingard](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1306284/Man-Utd-transfer-news-David-Moyes-West-Ham-reunion-Jesse-Lingard-Phil-Jones) could coax him back to his best, West Ham would have pulled off a coup.

Conversely, if Lingard makes the move but fails to recapture any semblance of form, it would go down as another [Jack Wilshere](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/oct/05/jack-wilshere-leaves-west-ham-after-agreeing-to-cancel-contract) case.
