# West Ham have genuine interest in Ismaila Sarr

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/15/darren-bent-claims-west-ham-have-someone-lined-up-to-replace-haller/) are reported to be ‘very keen’ on Watford winger [Ismaila Sarr](https://readcrystalpalace.com/2020/10/16/late-palace-bid-for-watford-star-rejected/), according to [The Athletic](https://theathletic.co.uk/2323123/2021/01/15/transfer-news-man-utd-football-soccer/).

The report states that the Hammers’ interest isn’t likely to materialise into an offer this month, however, as the club prioritises funds to [sign a striker](https://www.football365.com/news/west-ham-identify-new-target-reims-striker-search-boulaye-dia)to replace Sebastien Haller.

[David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/14/luka-jovic-snubs-west-ham-eintracht-frankfurt-return/) is thought to be an admirer of the Senegal international but the club would have to break their transfer record, currently [£45m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/transferrekorde/verein/379) for Haller, in order to land the 22-year-old, with his asking price [set at £50m](https://theathletic.co.uk/2323123/2021/01/15/transfer-news-man-utd-football-soccer/).

The winger was one of the few shining lights from Watford’s 2019/20 Premier League campaign as they were ultimately relegated, despite his [five goals and six assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ismaila-sarr/leistungsdaten/spieler/410225/plus/0?saison=2019) across the campaign.

One performance in particular brought him to wider attention as the ‘rapid’ winger, as [described](https://theathletic.co.uk/1153703/2019/08/23/hes-rapid-i-think-defenders-will-struggle-sadio-mane-on-watfords-new-signing/) by Sadio Mane, [tore apart](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/feb/29/watford-liverpool-premier-league-match-report) eventual Premier League champions Liverpool, in a 3-0 victory at Vicarage Road last February.

Predominantly operating as a right winger, the youngster has continued to be an influence this season for the Hornets, scoring [four goals and setting up five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ismaila-sarr/leistungsdaten/spieler/410225/plus/0?saison=2020).

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing Sarr in January would make little sense for West Ham, especially given his [lofty price tag](https://www.football365.com/news/liverpool-asking-price-watford-winger-ismaila-sarr).

Despite being capable of playing centrally, his [best position](https://totalfootballanalysis.com/player-analysis/ismaila-sarr-201920-scout-report-tactical-analysis-tactics) is undoubtedly out wide, a department where the Irons are [currently strong](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad).

Whilst signing someone with the ability of Sarr would make sense as he seems to have a [big future](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/watford/ismaila-sarr-moment-of-quality-offers-watford-fans-glimpse-of-bright-future-a4222546.html) as a top-flight player, with the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Pablo Fornals and [Said Benrahma occupying the wide positions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/said-benrahma/leistungsdaten/spieler/290532) at West Ham, there isn’t a major need for the Senegal ace right now.
