# West Ham could benefit as Pau Lopez valuation plummets

Rumoured [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/13/west-ham-fans-excited-arkadiusz-milik-transfer-latest/) target [Pau Lopez](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/13/roma-reject-pau-lopez-transer-bid-west-ham/) has seen his valuation halved in the last 12 months, according to a report from [Gazzetta dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Serie-A/Roma/13-01-2021/roma-pau-lopez-derby-derby-anno-nero-cancellare-3902457164942.shtml).

The Spanish goalkeeper, for whom the Hammers had a [reported loan move rejected](https://www.forzaroma.info/calciomercato-as-roma/pau-lopez-dice-no-al-west-ham-offerta-degli-inglesi-il-portiere-vuole-solo-la-roma/) this week, has experienced a tough time at AS Roma since his [£21m transfer](https://www.asroma.com/en/news/2019/7/pau-lopez-completes-roma-move) from Real Betis.

Following a [loan spell](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/tottenham-lopez-move-chelsea-west-ham-keen) at the Irons’ London rivals Tottenham, Lopez earned a lucrative switch to the Italian capital, although things haven’t transpired as he might have hoped and the 26-year-old [recently lost his number one](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pau-lopez/leistungsdaten/spieler/286415) place at the Stadio Olimpico to 37-year-old Antonio Mirante.

Despite seeing less than the desired amount of match action – he has played [just seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pau-lopez/leistungsdaten/spieler/286415) of Roma’s 17 matches in the league – Lopez is seemingly [determined to stay](https://www.football-italia.net/157638/report-pau-lopez-wants-stay-roma) with the Serie A club and fight for his place, a major factor in the Irons’ loan offer being rebuffed.

The fresh report from [Gazzetta dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Serie-A/Roma/13-01-2021/roma-pau-lopez-derby-derby-anno-nero-cancellare-3902457164942.shtml) claimed that Roma would struggle to fetch ‘€12-15m’ for the stopper, which falls in line with [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pau-lopez/marktwertverlauf/spieler/286415)‘s estimated market value of £9m.

David Moyes may revisit a potential deal for the [twice-capped Spaniard](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pau-lopez/nationalmannschaft/spieler/286415/verein_id/3375), sparked by the dramatically reduced valuation.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

The sudden [frenzy of links](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/roma-pau-lopez-dice-no-al-prestito-in-premier-10524) to goalkeepers has come somewhat out of the ether, with no apparently urgent need to [replace either Lukasz Fabianski](https://www.sofascore.com/player/lukasz-fabianski/15479) or Darren Randolph.

That said, the time is fast approaching whereby a [new number one at the London Stadium](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) will need to be found; and having previously been deemed good enough for an elite club like Roma to shell out in excess of £20m, Lopez seems to have plenty of ability and could fit the bill for the Irons in the long run.
