# West Ham look set to miss out on Moises Caicedo

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/12/west-ham-not-willing-to-meet-josh-king-asking-price/) look set to miss out on rumoured target [Moises Caicedo](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/07/west-ham-target-moises-caicedo-man-utd-transfer-not-completed/) as the Ecuadorian midfielder edges towards a move to Premier League rivals Brighton & Hove Albion, according to [Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1348971263369355264).

The 19-year-old was being [pursued by Manchester United](https://www.101greatgoals.com/news/transfers/west-ham-credited-with-interest-in-man-united-linked-moises-caicedo/), Everton and a host of MLS clubs alongside the Hammers, but [Romano has tweeted](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1348971263369355264) that the teenager is now on the verge of signing for the Seagulls.

Caicedo has been [catching the eye](https://www.sofascore.com/player/moises-caicedo/987650) for Independiente del Valle in this season’s Serie A Primera Etapa, the highest level of domestic football in Ecuador.

[Described as the ‘real deal’](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/12180712/moises-caicedo-manchester-united-locked-in-for-ecuador-19-year-old-international-midfielder) by South American football expert Tim Vickery, the teenager has come to the fore in his [14 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moises-caicedo/leistungsdaten/spieler/687626) this season, scoring twice and assisting one goal from his box-to-box midfield role.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing Caicedo would have been a major statement of intent from the Hammers, but it looks as if Brighton will have the bragging rights on this occasion.

With Romano reporting the agreed fee at just €6m (£5.3m), you can’t help but feel that West Ham have missed out, especially with the [central midfield positions in need](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) of enhancement.

The Irons could have had their ready-made Mark Noble successor through the door before they even needed to worry about replacing the [club legend](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2019/december/31-december/mark-noble-voted-hammer-decade) – instead, they are left wondering what might have been and relying upon the continued fitness of [ever-present duo](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/appearances) Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.
