# West Ham make enquiry for Thomas Strakosha

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/13/west-ham-set-to-miss-out-on-moises-caicedo/) have recently made an enquiry regarding the availability of Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha, according to a report from [Calcio Mercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/roma-pau-lopez-dice-no-al-prestito-in-premier-10524).

This enquiry comes as the Hammers saw a [reported recent loan bid](https://www.forzaroma.info/calciomercato-as-roma/pau-lopez-dice-no-al-west-ham-offerta-degli-inglesi-il-portiere-vuole-solo-la-roma/) rejected for another Serie A-based ‘keeper in [Pau Lopez](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/13/roma-reject-pau-lopez-transer-bid-west-ham/) of AS Roma.

David Moyes is seemingly keen to offer major competition to his goalkeeping ranks despite already having [three adequate options](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) at the club.

Born in Greece, Strakosha is an Albanian international, who was [described as having](https://thelaziali.com/2018/11/14/proto-strakosha-stronger-llsn/) ‘everything you need’ by his teammate and fellow goalkeeper Silvio Proto, who has kept 49 clean sheets in [173 appearances for Lazio](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thomas-strakosha/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/222209).

The 25-year-old is currently struggling with a [hamstring injury](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thomas-strakosha/verletzungen/spieler/222209) and has had layoffs with a positive Covid test as well as a period in quarantine, [losing his number one berth](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pepe-reina/leistungsdaten/spieler/7825) to former Liverpool ‘keeper Pepe Reina in the process.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

An active pursuit of a fourth senior goalkeeper in January seems like little more than a means to an end. All three of Lukasz Fabianski, Darren Randolph and David Martin are in the [twilight of their careers](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/startseite/verein/379), meaning the Irons will eventually have to bring in a younger option.

Fabianski in particular has [shown no signs](https://www.sofascore.com/player/lukasz-fabianski/15479) of needing to be replaced, so West Ham’s energy would be better spent in sourcing a replacement striker after the [departure of Sebastien Haller](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55576847), which has left the club with only one senior centre-forward.
