# West Ham interested in Ajax striker Lassina Traore

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/06/west-ham-offered-chance-to-sign-christian-eriksen/) are reportedly interested in Ajax striker Lassina Traore, according to Dutch outlet [De Telegraaf](https://www.telegraaf.nl/) (via [football-oranje](https://www.football-oranje.com/wolves-and-west-ham-interested-in-ajax-striker/)).

The Hammers are on the lookout for a new striker this month as [David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/04/david-moyes-drops-exciting-transfer-hint/) looks to strengthen his squad. Premier League rivals Wolves are [also believed to be keen](https://www.football-oranje.com/wolves-and-west-ham-interested-in-ajax-striker/) on the 19-year-old as the Midlands club look to find cover for Raul Jimenez.

[Burkina Faso international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lassina-traore/nationalmannschaft/spieler/551695/verein_id/5872) Traore has forced his way into the Ajax first team this season, scoring [nine goals and setting up nine others](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lassina-traore/leistungsdaten/spieler/551695) in 18 appearances. His goal return is greater than that of Jarrod Bowen (four) and Michail Antonio (three) combined and two more than West Ham’s leading scorer Sebastien Haller \[[Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/leistungsdaten/verein/379)\].

The report claimed that the teenager’s [impressive form](https://www.fotmob.com/players/850858/lassina-traore) has attracted English admirers, but Ajax are unlikely to allow the striker to leave the club in January.

Moyes may have been impressed with the centre-forward’s [Champions League form](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lassina-traore/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/551695/saison/2020/wettbewerb/CL/verein/610), including his two outings against Liverpool. Despite his tender age, Traore already [has all the attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/373291/Show/Lassina-Traor%C3%A9) to become an elite striker, which he showed to their utmost during [Ajax’s 13-0 demolition of VVV-Venlo](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54677546) in October as he netted five times.

As Antonio continues to [struggle with injuries](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-michail-antonio-injury-latest-david-moyes-crystal-palace-b323798.html) and Haller [with his consistency](https://www.sofascore.com/player/sebastien-haller/149731), Moyes needs to find a striking solution this month.

Signing a youngster with [bags of potential](https://www.ruiksports.com/lassina-traore-things-to-know-about-ajaxs-latest-prodigy/) like Traore is the perfect solution, in our opinion. He is a player who doesn’t necessarily need to be the main star right away, but can learn and play his part along the way whilst he develops.
