# West Ham in discussions with Jesse Lingard’s agents

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/04/fans-dont-want-mamadou-sakho-on-loan/) have held talks with the representatives of Manchester United attacking midfielder [Jesse Lingard](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/01/west-ham-will-have-to-pay-the-price-for-target-jesse-lingard/), according to [The Star.](https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united/sheffield-united-manager-chris-wilder-set-crucial-transfer-briefing-he-chases-two-new-signings-3083844)

Despite having a [one-year contract extension triggered](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/manchester-united-lingard-transfer-news-19544998) last week at Old Trafford, David Moyes could still offer the England international a fresh start to his stuttering career.

Lingard has quickly become a forgotten man in Manchester after once [being heralded](https://thesefootballtimes.co/2018/02/09/jesse-lingard-the-unlikely-rise-to-stardom-of-a-divisive-but-persistent-talent/) as the player for the big occasion. The 28-year-old is yet to [make a single Premier League appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdaten/spieler/141660) this season, leading to speculation the end of his [affinity with Manchester United](https://www.manutd.com/en/players-and-staff/detail/jesse-lingard) could be nigh.

Moyes was believed to be keen on the [2017 Europa League winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/erfolge/spieler/141660) in the summer, although the [arrival of Said Benrahma](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/october/16-october/west-ham-united-seal-said-benrahma-loan-deal) may have put that interest on the backburner.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

With a perceived market value of a [reasonable £9m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdaten/spieler/141660) for a player who has proven his worth among the elite in the past, West Ham could still take a chance on the [versatile England international](https://footballwhispers.com/blog/every-team-needs-a-jesse-lingard/).

Although it is a loss of [form and not injury issues](https://www.90min.com/posts/6469771-jesse-lingard-what-s-going-on-buddy) which have seemingly halted Lingard’s career, his recent contract extension means the Irons would need to shell out a fee for the out-of-favour playmaker – a risk we believe is not worth taking, especially with [Moyes’ squad](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) boasting considerable strength in attacking midfield positions.
