# West Ham fans laud Ryan Fredericks as he makes surprise start

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/29/west-ham-fans-slam-david-moyes-for-said-benrahma-comments/) full-back[Ryan Fredericks](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/18/west-ham-insider-names-three-potential-january-outgoings/) made a surprise return to the first-team fold on Tuesday night when he was handed a start against Southampton.

Having previously looked very much on the[periphery of David Moyes’ plans](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-fredericks/leistungsdaten/spieler/140191)and even on his [way out of the London Stadium](https://www.footballinsider247.com/phillips-exclusive-28-year-old-may-quit-west-ham-next-year-jan-exit-possible/#:~:text=West%20Ham%20must%20sign%20a,leaving%20the%20Irons%20in%202021.) in many people’s eyes, Fredericks played 90 minutes and received the plaudits for his performance.

The 28-year-old has been a lesser-seen commodity following the arrival of [Vladimir Coufal from Slavia Prague](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/oct/02/west-ham-sign-vladimir-coufal-from-slavia-prague-5m-transfer-news) but looked as though he had never been away against the Saints.

Rated [7.36 by Whoscored.com](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1485464/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2020-2021-Southampton-West-Ham) – Fredericks made 11 crucial defensive decisions during his[first 90 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-fredericks/leistungsdaten/spieler/140191)since the middle of October.

Fredericks proved he still has plenty to offer to Moyes as he stepped into the breach with aplomb and these Hammers fans took to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/RyanFredericks_) to praise the former Fulham man…
