# West Ham hold advantage in race for Arkadiusz Milik

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/29/west-ham-fans-slam-david-moyes-for-said-benrahma-comments/) have a significant advantage over London rivals Tottenham in the race to sign Napoli striker [Arkadiusz Milik](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/19/west-ham-could-snap-up-arkadiusz-milik-at-knockdown-price/), according to today’s [Corriere dello Sport (print edition)](https://www.pressreader.com/italy/corriere-dello-sport/20201228).

The Hammers were [originally linked](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/milik-e-l-addio-scontato-al-napoli-che-chiede-40-milioni-mentre-la-juve-offre-giocatori-1407273) with the Polish forward in the summer and they have since [been joined by Spurs](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/tottenham-striker-transfer-milik-daka-18907884) in their admiration of the 56-cap international.

It is now claimed by [Corriere dello Sport](https://www.pressreader.com/italy/corriere-dello-sport/20201228) that Milik would favour a switch to east London over Spurs due to the likelihood of only playing backup for Harry Kane under Jose Mourinho at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 26-year-old would likely play a leading role for David Moyes’ Irons, with Michail Antonio [regularly beset by hamstring issues](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-michail-antonio-injury-latest-david-moyes-crystal-palace-b323798.html) and Sebastien Haller [struggling to find any consistency](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sebastien-haller/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/181375/verein/379).

Milik has an impressive goal record of [114 in 271 career club appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arkadiusz-milik/leistungsdaten/spieler/191891), including [14 last season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arkadiusz-milik/leistungsdaten/spieler/191891/plus/0?saison=2019) in all competitions. The prolific striker – who [stands at 6 foot 1](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arkadiusz-milik/profil/spieler/191891)and [offers an aerial threat](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arkadiusz-milik/alletore/spieler/191891/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&minute=&pos=&torart=203&stand=) – could be [made available for just £13.6m](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/napoli-want-15m-to-sell-milik-in-january-amid-juventus/u8j7f4b4ox6p1byyq0lyxs828), with ongoing [aggravation between him and Napoli](https://www.goal.com/en/news/napoli-havent-treated-me-well-premier-league-linked-milik/16xwcno34s65k1h411z6wmj8oo) making a departure seem inevitable.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

What has happened between Milik and the Serie A club is a shame that has resulted in the Polish star [missing out on all first team action](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arkadiusz-milik/leistungsdaten/spieler/191891/plus/0?saison=2020) this season.

With that relationship [completely beyond repair](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8375691/Arsenal-lead-race-land-Napoli-hitman-Arkadiusz-Milik-cheap.html), the 26-year-old must be desperate to find regular game-time, something which the Hammers could well offer him.

One stumbling block for West Ham could be [Atletico Madrid’s reported interest](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1343889763875614720) in the striker. The La Liga side have space for an additional striker in their squad after the departure of Diego Costa.

The reported asking price – which is [less than his market value](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arkadiusz-milik/marktwertverlauf/spieler/191891) – for a [proven top-flight scorer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arkadiusz-milik/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/191891) with plenty of years left in him is highly realistic and should be under serious consideration among the West Ham hierarchy.

A signing of this calibre would prove the club’s credentials and suggest they do want to mix it with the bigger teams in the Premier League.
