# West Ham could sell Andriy Yarmolenko to fund Olivier Giroud move

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/23/west-ham-fans-react-to-frederik-alves-signing/) are once again being linked with a move to sign Chelsea striker [Olivier Giroud](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/04/david-moyes-keen-on-signing-olivier-giroud/) in January and are willing to offload [Andriy Yarmolenko](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/21/andriy-yarmolenko-could-be-sold-in-january/) to fund the deal, according to [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/west-ham-transfer-news-moyes-23207810).

The report claimed that Hammers boss David Moyes is willing to part ways with the Ukrainian forward in order to fund a move to sign Giroud, who has been [out of favour](https://www.90min.com/posts/olivier-giroud-s-agent-hit-out-at-unfair-treatment-by-chelsea) at Stamford Bridge at times this season.

The Frenchman is out of contract in west London [next summer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/olivier-giroud/profil/spieler/82442) and he is [desperate to find regular action](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/giroud-game-time-goals-chelsea-striker-clichy/m71m8q6yn3591hgomtd8pmbxq) ahead of the rescheduled Euro 2020 in June.

Moyes is apparently a[big fan of the 34-year-old](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/11168619/arsenals-jack-wilshere-interests-west-ham-boss-david-moyes) and the Irons could swoop to sign the target man on the cheap, the last opportunity Chelsea will get to receive a fee for the former Arsenal striker.

Perhaps with the player’s unhappiness in mind, Frank Lampard has afforded the Frenchman [more game-time](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/olivier-giroud/leistungsdaten/spieler/82442) recently and he [has delivered](https://talksport.com/football/798738/olivier-giroud-scores-four-as-chelsea-win-champions-league-group-with-stunning-victory-over-sevilla-2/) when given a chance, although he was back on the bench for [West Ham’s 3-0 defeat](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12169574/chelsea-3-0-west-ham-thiago-silva-and-tammy-abraham-on-target-as-chelsea-grind-past-london-rivals-west-ham) to the Blues on Monday night.

Irons winger Yarmolenko hasn’t been able to [recapture his best form this season](https://www.transfermarkt.com/andriy-yarmolenko/leistungsdaten/spieler/69015), not helped by his [recent Covid layoff](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/december/04-december/team-news-antonio-ruled-out-yarmolenko-returns-training). Valued at £7m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.com/andriy-yarmolenko/leistungsdaten/spieler/69015), the sort of fee that would [likely be required](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/olivier-giroud/profil/spieler/82442) to prise Giroud to the Londom Stadium.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Giroud’s [goalscoring record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/olivier-giroud/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/82442) speaks for itself and, as a short-term solution, there are far worse options out there.

With Sebastien Haller [struggling again for consistency](https://footballowl.co.uk/sebastien-haller-analysis-how-west-ham-can-unlock-their-star-striker/) and Michail Antonio picking up [repeated injuries](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/december/04-december/team-news-antonio-ruled-out-yarmolenko-returns-training), the West Ham squad is certainly in need of an additional centre-forward to ease the burden on Moyes.
