# West Ham interested in Rangers full-back Borna Barisic

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/22/chelsea-3-0-west-ham-player-ratings/) are reportedly interested in a move for Rangers defender [Borna Barisic](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/rangers-fc-news/rangers-gers-ibrox-borna-barisic-gary-bollan-cavin-bassey-gerrard-transfer/), according to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/rangers-man-barisic-eyed-by-west-ham/).

The Hammers have been linked with a [plethora of left-backs in recent weeks](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9000447/Chelsea-West-Ham-monitoring-situation-RB-Leipzig-left-Matthew-Bondswell.html) as David Moyes seeks to obtain cover, and potentially a long-term replacement, for Aaron Cresswell.

[Arthur Masuaku](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/11/west-ham-fans-discuss-possible-arthur-masuaku-replacements/) had been deployed in a left wing-back role whilst Cresswell [converted to a central defender](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-cresswell/leistungsdaten/spieler/92571) in recent weeks, but the DR Congo man recently [underwent surgery](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-news-masuaku-injury-surgery-b246581.html) to fix a long-standing knee problem, leaving Moyes short on options.

Barisic was [signed by the Scottish Premiership leaders](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11788/11464195/borna-barisic-signs-for-rangers-from-nk-osijek-on-four-year-deal) in 2018 from Croatian side NK Osijek and has [improved exponentially in recent months](https://theathletic.co.uk/1501631/2020/01/08/how-borna-barisic-rebalanced-rangers/) after a difficult first campaign north of the border.

The [15-cap Croatia international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/borna-barisic/nationalmannschaft/spieler/39125/verein_id/3556) has plenty of experience and would likely provide a ready-made understudy to Cresswell with the potential to challenge for an immediate starting berth.

The Rangers man has already played a staggering [26 times this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/borna-barisic/leistungsdaten/spieler/39125), chipping in with two goals and setting up another 10 for his team-mates – that’s [six more](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-cresswell/leistungsdaten/spieler/92571) than West Ham’s left-back incumbent.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Until now, many of the [left-backs linked with a switch to the London Stadium](https://onefootball.com/en/news/west-ham-united-linked-with-move-for-barcelonas-junior-firpo-31986007) have been youngsters with the potential to learn and improve under Cresswell’s tutelage with the view to taking over the reins in the future.

Barisic, though, is a [fully-fledged senior operator](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/borna-barisic/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/39125) who would likely be reluctant to make the move to the Premier League without the realistic prospect of first team football.

Valued at just £3.6m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/borna-barisic/marktwertverlauf/spieler/39125), a move for the Croatian is unlikely to cost an exorbitant fee, a factor which will likely gain the approval of the Hammers hierarchy.
