# West Ham fans react to insider’s worrying Declan Rice update

One of football’s worst-kept secrets is [Chelsea’s interest](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/chelsea-declan-rice-transfer-bid-22943396) in [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/18/west-ham-insider-names-three-potential-january-outgoings/)midfielder [Declan Rice](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/17/declan-rice-will-snub-chelsea-but-only-in-january/), with the west London club in hot pursuit of the England man for some time.

The 21-year-old is the Hammers’ most valuable player on [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/startseite/verein/379) by a distance and has quickly become a [pivotal part of David Moyes’ side](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/october/15-october/we-are-delighted-how-declan-rice-developing-england-manager)despite his fledgling years.

Playing in [every single minute of the Premier League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/leistungsdaten/spieler/357662) this season for Moyes and captaining the Irons throughout, the youngster has become indispensable. However, reliable club insider EXWHUemployee has suggested on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/ExWHUemployee/status/1339871008937881601) that the club could sell the midfielder if the price is right.

Whilst the [reported transfer demand of £80m](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/west-hams-80m-declan-rice-20383353) is a staggering sum of money for any football player and would [far and away surpass](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/rekordabgaenge/verein/379) any fee received by the Hammers, having a price tag on a player instantly makes him accessible, especially to a [high-spending](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-chelsea/transfers/verein/631) oligarch-run club like Chelsea.

Here’s a flavour of the reaction from Irons fans to the update from ExWHUemployee:
