West Ham fans ‘buzzing’ over transfer links with Junior Firpo

Plenty of West Ham fans had their curiosity piqued after Mundo Deportivo reported [via Sport Witness] that they are in the hunt for Barcelona left-back Junior Firpo.

The former Real Betis defender has struggled to oust long-standing Blaugrana veteran Jordi Alba from the left-back spot, with the 24-year-old reportedly set to be allowed to leave on loan in search of more senior game-time.

Firpo has made just one La Liga appearance (from the substitutes’ bench) this term, with five Champions League outings serving as his main source of competitive football (Transfermarkt).

Equally, West Ham are facing a minor injury crisis at left-back. Arthur Masuaku recently underwent knee surgery, whilst Aaron Cresswell also suffered a strain in the Hammers’ 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace this week.

It is perhaps unsurprising that the Hammers are being tipped to reinforce the left-back spot in January as they look to bolster their options ahead of a congested run of fixtures.

It is claimed that senior figures at the Nou Camp ‘will not oppose’ an approach for Firpo an could sanction a short-term move. David Moyes is said to be a key admirer of the player; he has exhibited a ‘long-shown interest’ in taking the player on a loan deal with a ‘purchase option’.

These West Ham fans took to Twitter to explore the possibility of the Barcelona man making the move to the London Stadium, with one Irons supporter “buzzing” at the prospect…

matchday.
