# Asking price revealed for West Ham target Marcus Edwards

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/10/david-moyes-confirms-michail-antonio-doubt-for-leeds/) were recently named among a host of clubs interested in bringing Vitoria Guimaraes winger [Marcus Edwards](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-transfer-rumours/marcus-edwards-tottenham-hotspur-arsenal-mauricio-pochettino-vitoria-guimaraes/) back to England.

The report from [TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/exclusive-west-ham-plethora-suitors-marcus-edwards) named the Hammers alongside a host of Premier League clubs looking at the[ex-Tottenham youngster](https://www.planetfootball.com/videos/watch-ex-spurs-wonderkid-marcus-edwards-scores-brilliant-winner-vitoria-boavista/) after he has shone during his time in Portugal.

The 22-year-old winger was at Spurs between 2015 and 2019, during which time he was [compared to Lionel Messi](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/10586670/tottenhams-marcus-edwards-likened-to-lionel-messi-by-mauricio-pochettino) by his former manager Mauricio Pochettino, before he was [signed by Guimarães on a free transfer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-edwards/transfers/spieler/314367) after failing to break into the first-team in North London.

Portuguese publication [Record](https://www.record.pt/) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/west-ham-need-minimum-e15m-signing-tottenham-clause-prove-issue/)) has issued an update on the potential deal by claiming there is no release clause in place and that the player’s club wouldn’t consider anything less than €15m (£13.68m) for the young Englishman.

In what could be the chief reason behind the price hike, the report added that Spurs hold a 50% sell-on clause, meaning his current owners would only get half of any fee.

Edwards has had [three goal contributions in nine league games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-edwards/leistungsdaten/spieler/314367) this term after enjoying a [stellar first season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-edwards/leistungsdaten/spieler/314367/plus/0?saison=2019) in Portugal.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

In truth, the valuation isn’t too farfetched given the [player’s form](https://www.sofascore.com/player/edwards-marcus/795066) since arriving on the continent, as well as his age. Credited with a market value of £11.7m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-edwards/marktwertverlauf/spieler/314367), the asking price is almost exactly in line with what Guimaraes are demanding.
