# Hammers Insider Writes Off Winston Reid’s Future at the Club

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/04/frederik-alves-expected-to-join-west-ham-despite-rule-changes/) defender [Winston Reid](https://readwestham.com/2020/03/16/west-hams-interest-in-jones-could-spell-trouble-for-reid/) is likely to be sold instead of returning to the London Stadium, according to popular insider [ExWHUemployee](https://twitter.com/ExWHUemployee?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor).

Reid enjoyed an upturn in form this year following a [difficult spell with injury and illness](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/17375/11860548/west-hams-winston-reid-ready-to-return-to-football-after-18-month-absence) as he helped guide Sporting Kansas City to the top of the [MLS Western Conference](https://www.mlssoccer.com/standings), making [12 appearances in total and chipping in with two goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/winston-reid/leistungsdaten/spieler/37526).

Still just 32 years old and with a [wealth of Premier League experience](https://www.premierleague.com/players/4209/Winston-Reid/stats) for the Hammers behind him, some may have expected the New Zealand centre-back to return to London and play a part under [David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/03/roshane-thomas-david-moyes-transfer-plans-january-summer/) once again.

However, speaking on [The West Ham Way podcast](https://www.patreon.com/thewesthamway/posts) \[via [Hammers News](https://www.hammers.news/transfer-news/exwhuemployee-claims-winston-reid-does-not-have-a-future-under-david-moyes-despite-upturn-in-form-and-will-likely-be-sold/)\], ExWHUemployee cast doubt over Reid’s immediate future in east London, saying:

> I wouldn’t think so (that Reid has a future at West Ham) not with Craig Dawson there as well and the fact that the three centre-backs are playing well.
>
> And the fact that you’ve got (Issa) Diop, I just can’t see it. He earns a lot of money (and) he’s very injury prone.
>
> By all accounts he did very well in MLS but it’s not really saying much is it, Bradley Wright-Phillips was the top scorer in MLS for years… it’s not the best thing to judge it on.
>
> If he comes back and he trains well and he stays fit then you know there might be a chance for him. But I think the club will try to get rid of him when they can unfortunately for him because he’s been a great servant of the club.

The Irons [sealed a deal to sign Dawson](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12102754/craig-dawson-west-ham-sign-watford-defender-on-season-long-loan) as the summer transfer window came to its conclusion – although the on-loan Watford man is yet to make a [single top-flight appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/craig-dawson/leistungsdaten/spieler/121477) for the club.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Whilst nobody wants to see such a [loyal and at times pivotal performer](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/august/05-august/ten-years-winston-reid-west-ham-united) fade away to nothing at a club, the time has perhaps unfortunately come for Reid to move on to pastures new.

With Dawson and Issa Diop both [struggling to get a look-in](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/leistungsdaten/verein/379) – as well as the [potential January arrival of Frederik Alves](https://onefootball.com/en/news/report-west-ham-united-set-to-sign-silkeborg-if-defender-frederik-alves-ibsen-in-january-31883136) from Danish club Silkeborg – unfortunately, there doesn’t seem a foreseeable route to action at West Ham for the powerful Reid, who [joined the Irons a decade ago](https://web.archive.org/web/20120921085430/http://www.whufc.com/articles/20100805/reid-signs_2236884_2112684).
