# West Ham Losing Ground in Sami Khedira Transfer Race

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/02/west-ham-ready-amadou-diawara-bid-mark-noble-successor/)‘s London rivals Tottenham are reportedly leading the race to sign Juventus ace [Sami Khedira](https://readwestham.com/2020/11/19/sami-khedira-keen-to-leave-juventus/) on a free transfer in January ahead of the Hammers, according to [Tuttomercatoweb](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/il-tottenham-vuole-khedira-e-non-e-l-unico-club-ma-prima-serve-la-rescissione-con-la-juve-1465410).

Despite his [years of service at the highest level](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sami-khedira/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/29401), the Italian outlet claimed the Serie A side are toying with the idea of [terminating the German’s contract](https://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2020/9/25/21455566/sami-khedira-juventus-2020-serie-a-summer-transfer-rumors-contract-buyouts-team-management) in order for him to leave on a free to remove his salary from their bill and he will  ‘almost certainly leave’.

[David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/02/david-moyes-new-contract-talks-west-ham/) has been [linked](https://www.sportmediaset.mediaset.it/ricerca/risultato.shtml) with an attempt to sign the World Cup winner, but it seems Spurs are the club showing the most interest in the 33-year-old.

Tottenham’s chances of landing the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder were handed a boost last week when Khedira [admitted](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12135702/sami-khedira-juventus-midfielder-says-joining-premier-league-would-be-an-honour) he would never say no to an offer from a Jose Mourinho-led side – perhaps owing to the Spurs boss once describing him as [‘the best in the world’](https://www.goal.com/en-us/news/88/spain/2012/08/05/3288964/mourinho-khedira-is-the-best-in-his-position) in his position.

Having enjoyed an [illustrious career](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sami-khedira/erfolge/spieler/29401), albeit having [never played in the Premier League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sami-khedira/transfers/spieler/29401), Khedira has endured a [battle with injuries](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sami-khedira/verletzungen/spieler/29401) in recent times and as such has seen his role at the Allianz Arena decline dramatically.

The 77-cap Germany international is [yet to make a single appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sami-khedira/leistungsdaten/spieler/29401) for the Serie A champions this season, underlining his unwanted status in Turin.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Whilst a World Cup winner with a medal collection as prestigious as Khedira’s is hard to turn down, especially for free, the Irons may be wise to turn the other way from this deal.

The [squad undoubtedly needs strength in depth](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad)in the central midfield department – something the German can offer – but at 33, with the likelihoof of high wage demands and with serious injury problems fresh in the memory, this could be a deal best left alone.
