# David Moyes Tipped To ‘Go Big’ On Transfers Next Summer

As the [January transfer window fast approaches](https://talksport.com/uncategorized/772960/january-transfer-window-dates-open-shut-premier-league-deadline-day-manchester-united-liverpool-chelsea-arsenal/#:~:text=The%20winter%20transfer%20window%20will,midnight%20on%20Monday%2C%20January%204.), many [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/03/mark-noble-could-leave-west-ham-at-end-of-season/) fans may be eagerly anticipating mid-season arrivals to bolster the squad at the London Stadium.

[David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/02/david-moyes-new-contract-talks-west-ham/)‘ side have made an impressive start to the 2020/21 campaign and, as such, there has been some clamour for the Scottish manager to double down on their positive beginnings by adding some meticulous mid-season signings.

However, The Athletic’s West Ham correspondent [Roshane Thomas](https://theathletic.co.uk/author/roshane-thomas/) has suggested that Moyes could hold off on winter signings, telling the [U Irons](https://podtail.com/en/podcast/u-irons-a-show-about-west-ham-united/is-benrahma-ready/) podcast:

> In terms of January, I actually asked Moyes in a press conference last Friday, is he looking at bringing in a lot of players or players who could be first-team regulars or players who will be mainly squad players? And he was saying, the mindset he’s in right now \[is\] he would rather go big in summer.
>
> He would rather go big in summer and recruit players then, as opposed to trying to sign a lot of players in January, which I thought was really interesting. So, that’s definitely something for West Ham fans to monitor in the coming weeks.

Instead, Thomas claimed that Moyes will wait and ‘go big’ next summer – perhaps owing to the [difficulty of doing good deals in January](https://www.football365.com/news/every-clubs-worst-ever-january-transfer-window-signing) as well as the ongoing [financial implications](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/english-premier-league/story/4170092/football-must-face-up-to-stark-realities-of-financial-future-after-covid-19-crisis) of the global pandemic – difficulties which could be eased as [fans gradually return](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/november/23-november/west-ham-united-notes-premier-league-statement-safe-return) to stadia.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Despite the apparent need for [strengthening in certain areas](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad), in particular central midfield and centre-forward, it would appear as if West Ham may not be a hive of transfer activity in the coming weeks.

Nevertheless, the January window is notoriously one which can throw up all kinds of [irregularities and possible moves](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/weirdest-bizarre-transfer-deadline-day-stories-ryan-babel-peter-odemwingie-liverpool), so Moyes will almost certainly be ready to get deals done should they arise.

Whilst nobody was expecting the kind of [groundbreaking double swoop](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/oct/25/west-ham-carlos-tevez-javier-mascherano-sheffield-united-premier-league) which saw Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano arrive in 2006, some well-planned arrivals would almost certainly be beneficial without rocking the boat.

Some of the more advanced links for Irons have been with Bournemouth striker [Josh King](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-hot-on-heels-of-january-deal-reaction/), AS Roma midfielder [Amadou Diawara](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/02/roma-identify-amadou-diawara-successor-nandez-west-ham-transfer-rumours/) and Sporting CP winger [Gonzalo Plata](https://www.record.pt/futebol/futebol-nacional/liga-nos/sporting/detalhe/plata-abre-a-porta-de-saida-do-sporting-extremo-cobicado-em-inglaterra-e-italia?ref=Sporting_DestaquesPrincipais).
