# West Ham Fans Purr Over Said Benrahma’s Performance v Aston Villa

[Said Benrahma](https://readwestham.com/2020/11/25/fans-want-said-benrahma-to-start-v-aston-villa/) has enjoyed a mixed start to life as a [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/01/west-ham-2-1-aston-villa-player-ratings/) player following his deadline day arrival on an initial loan from Brentford in October.

Perhaps owing to the [confusion surrounding the transfer](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8847299/Said-Benrahma-fails-West-Ham-medical-25m-Brentford-jeopardy-deadline-day.html), Hammers fans might have expected the Algerian’s early weeks would be anything but smooth sailing.

However, having only been given a [handful of minutes since his move](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/said-benrahma/leistungsdaten/spieler/290532), David Moyes showed faith in the 25-year-old on Monday night as he introduced the winger at half-time [against Aston Villa](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/12147606/west-ham-2-1-aston-villa-ollie-watkins-misses-penalty-as-hammers-go-fifth-with-victory).

Seconds after his introduction, Benrahma was justifying his manager’s decision as he [delivered a cross for Jarrod Bowen](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/december/01-december/extended-highlights-west-ham-united-2-1-aston-villa) to head the Irons back into the lead with what was ultimately the winning goal.

The cross was [Benrahma’s second assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/said-benrahma/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/290532/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/379) in his time at London Stadium – albeit his first was shortly followed by the [concession of a penalty](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/54758064) against Fulham recently.

This time, he continued to influence proceedings for the better. His touches, vision and dribbling ability were all on show as the Irons hung on – [just about](https://www.goal.com/en/news/var-ruining-the-game-jack-grealish-aston-villa-denied/1s0du961n8f4v1dafet6xmmcoy) – for their third victory in a row.

Plenty of West Ham fans on Twitter were raving over Benrahma’s second half display last night. One Hammer feels that he is already “better than Diangana”, a reference to the [Irons academy product who was sold to West Brom](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/grady-diangana/transfers/spieler/342048) in the autumn. Another insisted that the Algerian “has to start against Man Utd”, who [visit London Stadium on Saturday evening](https://www.skysports.com/west-ham-united-fixtures).
