# West Ham Target Gonzalo Plata To Be Made Available In January

Rumoured [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2020/11/30/quiz-west-ham-scorers-v-aston-villa/) transfer target [Gonzalo Plata](https://readnewcastle.com/2020/11/30/newcastle-intereted-gonzalo-plata-move-january-transfer-rumours/) looks set to be made available for a move in the January transfer window as per reports from [The Sun on Sunday](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/) \[via [The Boot Room](https://tbrfootball.com/report-west-ham-and-newcastle-want-gonzalo-plata-sporting-open-to-loan-deal/)\].

The 20-year-old winger, who plays for Sporting CP in Portugal, was [linked](https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/leicester-city-transfer-news-plata-4057405) with the Hammers and fellow Premier League side Leicester in the summer but a deal failed to materialise.

[David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2020/11/28/david-moyes-talking-points-west-ham-v-aston-villa/) may [face plenty of competition](https://www.brightonandhoveindependent.co.uk/sport/football/brighton-and-hove-albion/brighton-battle-west-ham-and-two-other-premier-league-clubs-ecuador-star-gossip-3051820?page=3) for the signature as two further Premier League clubs – Newcaslte and Brighton – have also been credited with an interest in a loan-to-buy move.

The Ecuador international, who has [three goals in his first eight senior caps](https://www.transfermarkt.com/gonzalo-plata/nationalmannschaft/spieler/592735/verein_id/5750), has struggled to see much first team action this season, playing just [62 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.com/gonzalo-plata/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/592735/saison/2020/wettbewerb/PO1/verein/336) in the Portuguese top flight.

On Saturday, the youngster, who is valued at £3.5m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.com/gonzalo-plata/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/592735), was left out of the matchday squad altogether for [Sporting’s 2-1 victory over Moreirense](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1490782/MatchReport/Portekiz-Liga-NOS-2020-2021-Sporting-CP-Moreirense) – unsurprisingly leading to more speculation over his immediate future.

After admitting his desire to play in the Premier League to Portuguese outlet [Adaptación](https://twitter.com/joacosaavedraq/status/1250653517485924353) in the summer, the Hammers could be tempted to make their interest known in the near future.

Capable of playing [behind the striker or on either wing](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gonzalo-plata/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/592735), Plata is an exciting prospect who offers plenty in an array of positions. He is a [strong dribbler](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/382206/Show/Gonzalo-Plata)who has [eight goal involvements](https://www.transfermarkt.com/gonzalo-plata/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/592735) thus far in his fledgling club career.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Whilst another winger is likely to be relatively low on [Moyes’ January priority list](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/transfer-news/david-moyes-identifies-west-hams-17580759), the availability of Plata – especially on favourable terms – could sway the manager into a move for the youngster.

However, the arrival of any additional wingers at London Stadium would almost certainly spell the end of the road for one of either [Robert Snodgrass](https://readwestham.com/2020/11/13/robert-snodgrass-faces-big-decisions-west-ham-future/) or Andriy Yarmolenko at West Ham.

Said Benrahma is [yet to make his full debut](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/said-benrahma/leistungsdaten/spieler/290532) for the Irons, so the possibility of signing another winger seems farfetched – although the longevity of Plata’s potential could be too good to dismiss.
