# West Ham ‘Offered’ Real Madrid Star Mariano Diaz In January

West Ham have reportedly been ‘offered’ the services of Real Madrid striker [Mariano Diaz](https://readwestham.com/2020/11/17/west-ham-plot-real-madrid-transfer-raid-diaz-jovic/), who has been made available for transfer in January.

Having [emerged as a surprise target](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8958025/West-Ham-offered-chance-sign-Real-Madrid-forward-Mariano-Diaz-loan.html) for the Hammers last week, Spanish outlet [Corriere Dello Sport](https://www.corrieredellosport.it/news/calcio/calcio-mercato/2020/11/22-76650476/mariano_diaz_il_real_lo_offre_al_west_ham/) have gone one step further in suggesting the 27-year-old has been offered to the east Londoners.

Diaz is [under contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mariano-diaz/profil/spieler/225020) at the Bernabeu until 2023 and West Ham are unlikely to be keen on spending a big transfer fee, so a loan move has been mooted as the most probable outcome.

David Moyes will almost certainly be on the lookout for [additional striking reinforcements](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) when the window reopens in January, despite [Sebastien Haller’s return to goalscoring form](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-sebastien-haller-david-moyes-premier-league-b76911.html) on Sunday.

As such, [Corriere Dello Sport](https://www.corrieredellosport.it/news/calcio/calcio-mercato/2020/11/22-76650476/mariano_diaz_il_real_lo_offre_al_west_ham/) claimed that Diaz is a ‘solution’ for the Irons and a deal could be done in the near future as Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane looks at other options in his [star-studded squad](https://www.realmadrid.com/en/football/squad).

The Spanish-born forward was involved at the weekend for Los Blancos as he played [85 minutes and got on the scoresheet](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/spielbericht/index/spielbericht/3451009) in the reigning La Liga champions’ 1-1 draw with Villareal. However, Diaz has struggled to recapture the [form he showed with Lyon in 2017/18](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mariano-diaz/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/225020/plus/0?saison=&verein=1041&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) at any point during his career in Madrid, with whom he [won the Champions League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mariano-diaz/erfolge/spieler/225020) three years ago.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Diaz certainly represents a viable option to the West Ham squad, especially on a loan deal until the end of the current campaign.

A loan without an obligation to buy leaves the club holding the all the aces, should he be a hit in the Premier League, [to which some strikers find it notoriously difficult to adapt](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/11680051/chelseas-gonzalo-higuain-admits-struggling-to-adapt-to-premier-league). In that event, the Hammers could then seek to make the deal permanent.

However, should he not prove a success in east London, he could simply head back to the Spanish capital and all parties can attempt to find another solution.

Given [Michail Antonio’s injury history](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michail-antonio/verletzungen/spieler/104124) and the [inconsistency of Haller](https://www.90min.com/posts/exclusive-sebastien-haller-rejects-bundesliga-return-west-ham-stay), Moyes may be desperate to rectify his striking limitations, with Bournemouth’s Josh King also [believed to be high on his list of targets.](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/oct/08/west-ham-reluctant-to-pay-175m-to-sign-joshua-king-from-bournemouth)
