# West Ham Fans React To Renewed Olivier Giroud Transfer Question

Recognised West Ham outlet [Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/chelsea-striker-looks-to-be-a-january-hammers-option/) have reignited the discussion over an approach for Chelsea striker [Olivier Giroud](https://readwestham.com/2020/02/05/west-ham-club-insider-claims-hammers-wanted-to-sign-giroud-in-january/) by suggesting the Hammers could be interested in bringing the striker in on a short-term loan deal.

[David Moyes’ squad](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) is worryingly light in striking options and it has long since been the belief the Irons could do with bringing an alternative centre-forward to the London Stadium.

Sebastien Haller and Michail Antonio are the two senior centre-forward options, with the latter [currently absent](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/oct/29/west-hams-michail-antonio-out-for-a-month-with-hamstring-tear) with a hamstring injury and the former managing just [12 goals in 44 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sebastien-haller/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/181375/verein/379) since his [£45m move](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jul/17/west-ham-sebastien-haller-club-record-fee) in 2019.

Giroud, a [World Cup winner with France](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/world-cup-2018-olivier-giroud-ends-without-shot-on-target/lx9jb9ki7ee61tr38jou9r9sj), is understood to be [frustrated](https://talksport.com/football/663504/transfer-olivier-giroud-chelsea-euro-2020-julien-laurens/) with the lack of match action afforded to him this season, having played [just 33 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/olivier-giroud/leistungsdaten/spieler/82442) in the Premier League.

At 34, the [cultured French forward](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2018/a-self-analysis-by-olivier-giroud-i-am-a-bit-of-an-old-school-player/#:~:text=His%20style%20of%20play&text=A%20tall%20player%20with%20the,as%20the%20hold%2Dup%20player.) may not have many seasons left at the top level and will be desperate not to waste too much time festering on the bench.

West Ham have been [linked with Giroud numerous times before](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1235929/West-Ham-transfer-news-Olivier-Giroud-Chelsea-deadline-day-January-window) and could well go back to their London rivals for the striker in January to finally make the deal a reality.

It’s fair to say there were mixed reactions from these Irons fans on Twitter as to whether they’d like to have a “proven goalscorer” like Giroud ([211 goals in 525 career appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/olivier-giroud/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/82442)) at the club…
