Opinion: There May Never Be Better Chance For West Ham To End Man City Hoodoo

West Ham may never get a better opportunity to end their woeful recent record against Manchester City than when the two sides meet on Saturday lunchtime.

Though David Moyes hasn’t overseen each fixture, the current incumbent will be desperate to mastermind the end of a terrible run. The Hammers have ended up on the wrong side of the last eight meetings between the two, often in humiliating fashion.

Despite the obvious disparity in the spending between the clubs, Moyes will be expecting his charges to compete on a far greater level than has been the case in recent classes.

With the visitors arriving with a crux of injuries to their talented squad, and on the back of an indifferent run of results, the East Londoners must look to seize the moment.

Whilst the Irons have hardly been setting the world alight in 2020/21, last weekend’s remarkable comeback, coupled with the positive end to the transfer window, should mean the squad are in a good place as they prepare to push Pep Guardiola’s side all the way.

Moyes’ men come into the clash with a clean bill of health, to the point where club captain Mark Noble could well be omitted from the matchday squad altogether.

So far this campaign has been a season like no other, the lack of fans seemingly contributing to the sheer amount of goals and shock results, could West Ham cause another on Saturday?

Although the Hammers stand a genuine chance of getting a positive result from Manchester City at the ninth time of asking in recent years, that’s not to say they won’t have to be right at the top of their game.

Moyes is likely to persist with the pragmatic three central defenders flanked by two wing-backs, a tactic which has shown signs of improvement in recent weeks and could well help nullify the threat posed by City wingers.

One thing that is for sure is that the hosts will need to be accurate when they get the ball, chances will likely be few and far between, therefore making the most of every opportunity will be paramount.
