West Ham are looking into the possibility of signing Portuguese midfielder Joao Mario from Inter Milan, according to O Jogo.

The Hammers face competition to reunite with the central midfielder from fellow Premier League clubs as both Newcastle and Leeds have been credited with an interest too.

Multiple top-level European clubs from across the continent have also been reported as being interested in the star, who has been deemed surplus to requirements by Antonio Conte at Inter.

The report claims that the Serie A club would be looking for £12 million for a permanent transfer for the player, who has just under two years remaining on his Inter contract.

Mario, now 27, spent the second half of the 2017/18 season on loan at West Ham, impressing many as he made 13 appearances, scoring twice.

The 46 times capped Portugal international has been out of favour for a few seasons now having spent last season on loan to Russian Premier League side Lokomotiv Moscow.

Hammers boss David Moyes was the man in temporary charge during Mario’s loan stint at the London Stadium, so he will be well versed on the stars’ capabilities.
